About to file first vat return, which will include a back-claim for vat paid on various things over the last 3 years as per hmrc guidelines, BUT, I
can't seem to find out whether vat paid on commercial/industrial rent is back- claimable, and if it is, whether it's classed as goods or a
service? Hmrc website mentions fees paid in relation to property and premises, but doesn't specifically mention rent.
Obviously I will call them to check if I can't be sure, but just wondered, as if it's classed as goods then it's 2 full years worth
which is a LOTof vat!
Things may have changed since I last did a VAT return but I didn't think VAT was chargeable on rent?
Yea it is, but it depends, something to do with if vat was reclaimed on the building construction costs
That would explain why I never paid VAT on my old workshop, it was built long before VAT was introduced
