Getting rid of sky
Ninehigh - 18/12/11 at 07:42 PM

Is there a site out there where I'd be able to stream/torrent/similar a whole bunch of tv programs? Ideally I'd like to be able to dump the skybox and use missus's desktop but as we've discussed before using freeview means we get rid of half the channels I watch, but getting rid of the box altogether means we get rid of 90% of the channels we don't watch.

Heck I wouldn't mind if there was a subscription charge (as long as subscription and internet comes to £30/month or less!)

I'm sure one of you out there is doing this somehow

I tried sickbeard... I set it to record one thing, which it promised it did but never did... Could have been because the pc was off at the time, never really checked into it because the web-page only interface was a proper pita.

I tell thee a legal way of doing this would work wonders, just have a look at all the channels you get and don't watch. Imagine if you only paid for what you did watch!

sickbeard, couch potato and sabnzbd are without doubt the best things out there

never had a problem and neither have any of my friends setups - are you sure you confugured it correct?

Ninehigh - 18/12/11 at 09:11 PM

No idea, I recognise using sabnzdb too and it was asking me for things I didn't know about... To be honest I have no idea if sickbeard works once the browser has been closed

What channels do you want? Whats wrong with freeview/freesat?

We got rid of Sky and swapped to Freeview a few months ago, can't say I miss anything on there at all. When I phoned up they offered me all sorts of deals to stay with Sky (in fact, if you're with Sky it's worth telling them you're thinking of leaving to see what they offer). I explained to them that with Sky I have 300 channels I don't want to watch whereas with Freeview I only have about 50 channels I don't want to watch but at least I'm not paying for the privilege!!

You can get Sky sports on freeview but you have to pay extra - no idea how much though. Keep an eye out at Tescos, we got a 500gb Toshiba HD Reecorder for £130 but they normally sell for about £230 I think

Well, if I could I would just use the Sky Sports channels and the rest on Freesat...

However, we love the HD box with the recording functions....

Also uknova for UK TV and any torrent site for everything else.
I rarely watch TV now, I just download whatever I want in HD and watch it on my WD media box
