I'd always thought that 'gift' payments were free from charges on both sides, but that's a couple of guys now telling me that they had to pay a couple of extra quid to send dosh.

Has that always been the case, or is it a recent revision?

always been like that i think, otherwise why would anyone not send it as a gift?. the reason why people say send it as a gift is so that the person sending has to pay the fee!

Send a lot of payments as gifts and never been charged and nor has the recipient as far as i'm aware.

Always been like that for as long as I have used it. Lets the sender absorb the fee to send the money.

I've just been looking through my PP 'history and can't find any charges on either side for any 'gift' payments I've sent. Are there different 'levels' of accounts?

I think it depends on what kind of account each person has. There have been times I could and times I couldnt avoid the fees, it should always tell you before you send tho, and should give you the option for the sender or recipient to pay it.

it used to be free, but yes they now charge

screw you over every way they can

Thats why I use bank transfer between people I trust. Bought a few things lately off here and done bank trasnsfer so no fees on either side and money normally goes in their bank in 10 mins on a "faster payment" transfer. I only use paypal for ebay as I have to most of the time.

it depends if you have funds in your account or if its pulled from your bank account.

You dont get any coverage with gifts if the stuff doesn't turn up or is not as described.
