Does anyone know if eBay would have a problem with you stipulating in your ad that the buyer MUST pay the fees if they choose to use PayPal?

I normally wouldn't bother, but it's a relatively high value item and I'm fed up lining PP's pockets!

Not 100% sure Scootz, but i don't think they would like it.

I had an ad removed because i stated that 'the item was for sale elsewhere and i reserved the right to end the auction early'
It cost me another set of listing fees....ebastardos!

Thing is you see that statement on loads of ads, so i dunno how they came to pick on mine, maybe they do a random sweep for such offences.

I actually don't think they'll remove it if you say that Paypal payment option attracts a 4% surcharge (as long as you offer an alternative), however, the buyer will be able to complete an automatic check-out at the original final price, and you'll then struggle to justify that the buyer hasn't paid adequately..

Start the auction at 4% higher than what you want to let the item go for and just suck it up I'd say...


Alternatively there are lots of listings which don't accept paypal (again, a grey area)

When I was selling a moped I just put payment on collection only in the listing then ended it early when it reached what I was expecting to get for it.

Yes ebay do have a problem with that. Ebay rules state seller must pay fees.

It only takes someone to report the listing to eBay and they will remove it, as in breech of their pocket lining rules.

They cannot stop you stating on the listing, 'NO PAYPAL' cheque or cash only, and refunding anyone who tries to be clever and pay by paypal, I have done the latter and had a case raised against me, which was not upheld.
