Buying a Mobile Phone in USA?
Slater - 3/1/12 at 12:25 PM

Hello there, if I buy an unlocked Mobile Phone in the USA, will it work here in South Africa? (obviously with a local SA SIM card)

I want to get my 11 yr old daugher her first phone, I will be visiting the US soon. They are v expensive here.

Thinking of Nokia C3 - which is listed as ...........Unlocked quad-band GSM cell phone compatible with 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies plus GPRS/EDGE capabilities.

IIRC quad band = world wide compatability.

quote:
From Wiki: A new addition has been the quad-band phone, also known as a world phone, supporting all four major GSM bands, allowing for global use (excluding non-GSM countries such as Japan or South Korea).

Keep in mind the C3 is a fairly old model the current model is the C3-01 which is completely different phone

The Samsung Galaxy Ace and ace 2 are quad band and proper smart phones running Android you should be able to find an unlocked Ace or the slightly better/faster/bigger Ace 2 for about the same price. They have proper GPS and a big touch sceen an a reasonably nippy processor.

Wouldn't have been an old phone at the time of the first posting...
