My son has taken a chunk out of the edge of our ceramic hob - a frameless electrolux one. Is it possible to replace just the glass on these or do I have to live with it until it completely cracks and then replace the whole item?

It should be repairable, but may have to be removed to do the job. We recently had the inner glass in an oven door replaced, buthte door had to go to workshop as glass had to be bonded in using a hight temp glue and held under pressure until set. Look for a local domestic appliance specialist, the one we use has help with all kinds of appliances..

Depending on how it was broken, you could possibly claim on your house insurance.

In my experience they are not worth repairing - once cracked it is only a matter of time before they go completely. They start at around £150 to buy new - it doesn't have to be an electrolux does it?

As said might be worth claiming on household insurance if you want an £800 one

I (in fact, my wife) did the same. Being tight, were still using it though its actually shattered all the way across. When i do replace it, it will be with a framed one, as the edge are a little exposed when frameless. I found a Neff one for £210ish, with touch control.

I tried to persuade the wife to go back to gas cos i can get them free occationally, but she likes how clean ceramic hobs are!
