Arrgg.... its too late on a friday and my brain is dead
can anyone here solve this one for me ?
A = 4*C^2 + T^2 + 3*C*T + T*L + 2*C*L
solve for C
its a quadratic in c so could have 0, 1 or 2 solutions
Ill have have a go when I get home
10.52
4*C^2 + (2L - 3T)*C + (T^2 +TL - A) = 0 (I think)
Then plug it all into the standard

C = {-(3T+2L) +/- SQRT{(3T+2L)^2-16(TL+T^2-A)}} / 8
Wot she said ^^^^ these shoud be your 2 answers (or 1 if they are the same), the term in the square root will be negative if you have imaginary
solutions

job done
you have to tell us what it was for though!

Yep. For F=0![]()
I wonder how many 12 year olds could solve a quadratic these days even with the simple plug in the numbers formula.
They say that the exams are not getting easier, what a load of bull poop. I understand that logarithms are not even part of the compulsary sylabus
anymore and neither is trig!?

Normal O-level syllabus maths. I remember in the 2nd year of secondary school having a French lesson, when the teacher showed a cartoon style card with a pupil writing on a blackboard and gave us a phrase something like "Claudette est très intelligent" and the whole class chorused "Non. Claudette est stupide" as we'd all recognised the solution to a quadratic equation and spotted that it was incorrect.
