Yeh, I saw that, wasn't it held by an RS200 before?

Adam

Peteff - 19/8/04 at 10:22 AM

One of these held it for a while.

The ultima accelarated a lot quicker but the Cateringvan braked better, makes sense as it is half the weight.

they were gonna try 0-200-0 but rain stopped play

I read the other day that the new ford gt (40) has been tested and achieved 205mph, making it the fastest ever production ford.

McLaren have also got the go ahead to use Dunsfold Aerodrome (where top gear is filmed) as a test track for training owners of the new mclaren mercedes supercar, before taking delivery.

Ned.

mackie - 19/8/04 at 11:12 AM

I wanna try an emergency stop from 200mph in an SLR. It looks like fun

That's a very very powerful n/a V8 though! I didn't realise you could get quite that much out of an SBC!

Imagen how much it would cost for a new set of discs on a mclaren mercedes!

It cost £25,000 to service a mclaren F1!! Nothing compared to the £600,000 it cost to begin with. In my life I have sat in 2 mclaren F1s and seen Rowan Attkinson's F1. He came to watch a match at our school which his son was playing in, Purplw, what a colour. The 2 I have sat in belonged to one of my friends dad's, Archie Hamilton whose dad is a classic and performance car dealer : http://www.duncanhamilton.com. The passanger seats are very uncomfortable.

Git!

I've only seen one in the flesh (a race one at Goodwood) but it was the only car there you couldn't get near.

Don't tell me you've sat in that GTR one that DuncanHamilton are selling?
Does it even have a passenger seat?

I've been drooling over it since I saw that advert linked elsewhere. Have tried convincing my parents that it'd be worth selling the house to afford it but no luck yet!

James

phelpsa - 19/8/04 at 12:14 PM

No, not the one he is selling but he did have another one at one time, he wouldn't let me or Archie anywhere near it, worth to much. I also sat in an XJ220.

Adam

Got knows how much the SLR's disks and pads cost to replace.
I know the Porsche PCCB disks cost £25,000 to replace and the SLR's brakes are more advanced still...

Peteff - 19/8/04 at 01:29 PM

I overtook an xj220 coming back from town the other day, and I was on my pushbike going uphill . It did look like it was going to rain though, so I was in a hurry. The most exotic thing I've ever sat in is the jacuzzi at Butlins' waterworld so I'll get me coat.

locoboy - 19/8/04 at 02:49 PM

LMAO

I have driven the GT40 out of Le Mans the film and a pukka Shelby 427 Cobra, oh and that minging car out of clockwork orange!

Worked at the Midland Motor Museum as a kid - polishing all kinds of exotic machinery

marktigere1 - 19/8/04 at 02:58 PM

Sat in a DeLorean. Does this count for anything?

ned - 19/8/04 at 03:24 PM

Chatted up one of the guys at goodwood festicval of speed a few years ago and got a seat in an ex colin mcrae wrc focus..

Probably counts for -5

Ned.

mackie - 19/8/04 at 03:34 PM

I felt a bit too cheeky to ask for a sit in a Koenigsegg once...

phelpsa - 19/8/04 at 03:39 PM

I have been allowed in the same room as the Jag Duncan Hamilton won the Le Mans in in 1952, that is an honour. It is the one that the stig mashed up on Top Gear just I saw it before it was broken. The room has a special machine that keeps the humidity and temperature right so it doesn't rot.

liam.mccaffrey - 19/8/04 at 03:59 PM

i saw it when they thrashed that car, what tw*ts

Jumpy Guy - 19/8/04 at 04:14 PM

Ive worked on and sat in the McLaren F1 that won le Mans in 95

and sat in, driven and worked on the new Mclaren merecedes SLR.

Both very nice in their own ways......

alfasudsprint - 19/8/04 at 06:50 PM

Whats the story with stig and the Le Mans jag???

Cita - 19/8/04 at 07:28 PM

I sat in real deep sh"t once..does that count for something?

I love speed :-P - 19/8/04 at 07:32 PM

i dont no if this counts, but i have sat in a minardi f1 car, and went up though and down the greas while the engine was running, but the rear wheels were of the floor

phelpsa - 20/8/04 at 09:29 AM

That must be louder than a Mclaren F1 GTR

It was reported that it had been driven hard and without a great deal of respect by members of the Top Gear team when on loan to them. Pretty sure there was no body damage, just that the mechanicals needed soem work afterwards.

Personally, I would have thought it obvious that Top Gear would thrash any car they borrow, but maybe respect was expected for the age of the Jag but not given.

ceebmoj - 20/8/04 at 11:18 AM

while we are one uping.

I sat in this years renult f1 car

JoelP - 20/8/04 at 06:17 PM

phelpsa - 20/8/04 at 06:56 PM
