mistergrumpy - 25/1/12 at 10:04 PM

Returns Sunday at 8pm! Queue the entertainment versus serious motoring programme debate!

blakep82 - 25/1/12 at 10:11 PM

if you don't like it, don't watch it, and no need to comment!
I can't wait wonder what the Nascar bit will be?

owelly - 25/1/12 at 10:14 PM

I'll watch it and if it's rubbish, I'll watch it again next week. If I really can't watch it, there's dozens of buttons on my remote to make it go away.

JoelP - 25/1/12 at 10:23 PM

i'll probably miss it, more because i'll forget than because i dont want to see it. Its a shame because im sure there will be a few good bits but i cant bear to watch any more nonsense! Maybe i should sky+ it and only watch the good bits!

nick205 - 25/1/12 at 10:31 PM

Roll on the 3 stooges - it finishes my week off nicely with a beer and a giggle

daniel mason - 25/1/12 at 10:41 PM

i'll series link it. is on bbc HD as well?

steve m - 25/1/12 at 10:49 PM

Im with JoelP on this one, i used to watch everyone, yet now, cant be bothered to watch mr egotistic, and his ugly sisters

one hour of useless twaddle on BBC,

so apart from the news and weather, thats about 23 hours a day of useless twaddle on most channels now

daniel mason - 25/1/12 at 11:19 PM

^^^you think the weather is good?

I hope its better than the american version.

To be honest if it has cars in, or bikes I'll watch it and enjoy it.

+1
But some will feel the need to comment.

There's 'no need' to comment on ANYTHING on this forum... but we do! Hell, you just commented on a comment!

TG is a motoring based show... this is a motoring based forum... surely there's a conversation to be had (whether you like all sides of that conversation or not!).

I think the reason the show gets so many negative comments on here is through disappointment. Disappointment that it used to be essential viewing, but for some, it has developed into a caricature of it's former self. The three protagonists nailed it for the first few seasons and the viewing figures (rightly) went through the roof. Then their script writers completely lost the plot and started to focus on the slapstick comedic aspects of the show. For many of us, it doesn't work as none of the presenters are 'comedians' or even decent actors and subsequently we feel that a show that was once fantastic has been ruined. The only 'constant' for me has been James May and that's probably because he still plays things reasonably low-key. Clarkson is... well... Clarkson! And Hammond is completely unbearable! His whining voice, OTT expressions and stupid hair (did I just criticise a mans hair!?) irritate me beyond belief. He's on my (admittedly very long) 'most like to slap' list! And yes... I'm on my own list too!

Anyway, I'll tune in as I always do to see if they have returned to form, but sadly it's not a show that I would rush home to see or be disappointed if I missed anymore.

britishtrident - 26/1/12 at 08:54 AM

Compo, Clegg and Foggy Dewhurst are back.

I used to really enjoy top gear, and still do for about half the time. I do find some bits are just toooo stupid now. For instance in the india one recently, the last bit where they play 'cricket' was fun, some of the touring about bits were quite good, but the I found the trade mission and tearing the signs on the train to make rude words just made me cringe. I also dislike the bits where they just break stuff for no reason.

Totally agree.

They are really just running out of ideas now as they ahve been at it too long. It's a sad reflection on the quality of output that TG is one of the few things I would bother to watch.

Indeed, doing it on their touring car (that BMW they raced) was amusing, mostly because it looked like a genuine accident. The whole sign thing was done for us, because who speaks English there? (Probably more than I think but my point still stands)

roadrunner - 26/1/12 at 10:27 AM

Cant wait, there is bugger all else on for the rest of the week, at least I get one hours viewing for my license money.

Benzine - 26/1/12 at 12:41 PM

A: Like it/still a good laugh/bit of escapism

B: I have a sore tooth, I'm going to keep prodding it.

britishtrident - 26/1/12 at 01:27 PM

The episode with the motor home challenge really disgusted me, Clarkson was shown in several shots driving a clearly un-roadworthy, highly unstable illegal vehicle on a extremely busy motorway clearly risking the lives of other road users.

Yep... was scratching my head at that episode.

I can only assume that they were doing it under escort and that the other vehicles / drivers were under BBC contract. Sounds mad, but they have the budget to do it (and there's no way they would have got away with what they were up to otherwise).

more likely that the BBC have a pretty hefty insurance policy for the show that they want to make sure they get their moneys worth for!

eddie99 - 26/1/12 at 01:55 PM

I cant wait, thanks for the reminder!

BBC don't make Top Gear they buy it in.

[Edited on 26/1/12 by britishtrident]

The rights to Top Gear are owned by the production company Bedder 6 setup by Clarkson and his producer mate which sells it to the BBC.

Can't decide if I'm a simpleton for watching it or not....?

It usually makes me chuckle and I have no objection to seeing nice cars hammered round a track. The guests are generally OK - I particularly enjoyed Brian Johnson (AC/DC). The road trips generally throw up some interesting scenery and amusing locals. Although I agree some of the "Brits abroad" behaviour isn't too favourable - stars and stripes motorbike in Vietnam wasn't great IMHO.

Anyway, I'll be watching on Sunday with a beer!

Come to think of it Hammond's chat with a war deafened local on the beach was fairly uncomfortable too - of course it's his beach you snivelling idiot!

Oh no...I'm turning myself against it now
