Wtd: Cheap First Aid course
James - 9/2/12 at 06:57 PM

My girlfriend and I (and maybe a few others) need to go on a first Aid course to help us get our next Savate (French kickboxing) instructors certificates.

It only needs to be a very basic course (I'm yet to see much more than the odd nose bleed/broken nose in 11 years of doing the sport!).

This, however, seems to be a surprisingly expensive thing to do (I'm often seeing £80 per person).

I make no money out of being an instructor and I'm frankly broke after several months of redundancy so I'm not really able to justify this expense. I know a lot of employers put their people through courses so I suspect the prices are increased as companies normally pay.

Anyone know of any way of doing a course really cheaply? It only needs to be the most basic of courses, a couple of hours at most really.

Thanks!

James

did a red cross first age course for children two weeks ago - cost 49 quid. I'd expect the adult amuse to cost the same. Got a certificate after spending a saturday with them.

I just checked the Red Cross and a basic 5 hour course for a member of the public is £37.50+vat. Make sure you choose "General Public" in the course finder or you don't get the "First aid for adult" listed in the box.

Blimey that's good value I think the missus and I will do the baby and child one for the grand kids. Funny we never bothered when they were our own....................

My wife did the St.Johns course when she was a school dinner lady years ago and it was a good grounding for the subject.

If you do the baby / child course just be aware the first hour is the worst. They start off with what happens if your baby stops breathing / heart stops. Having an 8 month old I dote on ........ well, it wasn't nice to be thinking about it and practicing on the dummy.
