I know that it's wrong, but tomorrow i am having a new living room carpet fitted...the old one however is in pretty good shape and I just have this niggling thought in the back of my mind that it would do nicely on the garage floor....however the obvious is screaming at me i.e. sharps getting caught in the carpet causing tyre damage, damp, spills, welding fires, etc......

Anyone got anything good to say about garage carpet.....otherwise the carpet fitters are going to dispose of it for me.....

If you are doing metalwork/dealing with oil dont even think about it....

Could keep a 6x6' section to use as a rug if you have to lie on the floor for anything...

I've got carpet in my garage and i think it's great. It's comfortable to walk/lay on and keeps you a bit warmer in the winter, just hoover when it gets dirty. It's not the woolen kind so it doesn't go smelly when it gets wet either.

Carpets are brill in garage. Warmer on the feet, softer on the knees and stops small bits, when dripped, bouncing into oblivion.

I have a piece of carpet down in my garage. I have set fire to it a few times welding but otherwise it has been great, soft and warm underfoot.

It is latex backed all synthetic which is ideal.

i have got the old living room carpet in my workshop too. its of the low pile variety so i can hover it easily. and fortunately it just melts when hot weld lands on it and doesn't catch on fire.

I might just do a quick 'fire resistance' test on it...it does seem too good to throw away when the car is all cold in the garage.....

...only thing is, the car is blue, and the carpet is green.....do you think it will clash...?

Think the curtains are up for renewal as well...or is that a bridge too far?

Already got a fridge and tumble dryer out there....if i can build a bar in the corner i am moving in....pretty sure i can use the pillar drill for mixing cocktails...?

Carpet in the garage is great. Keeps you much warmer in the winter than a bare concrete floor and is easy to keep clean with a vacuum cleaner.

Done deal then....I'm doing it...

Great if you are doing project cars where you spend loads of time onthe ground- once you have vehicles whizzing in and out and it is wet, floor paint seems better.
At one point due to large scale floor tiling of the house we had 3 layers of carpet on top of each other, as it got manky with rust, underseal and oil we would roll it up and take it round the fileld for a fire. Very satisfying if not quite in harmony with the green party

Have 2 thicknesses of carpet in the garage and its warmed the place up a treat
Makes it more bearable working under a car aswell
