Meet my daughter...
yellowcab - 10/5/12 at 06:14 PM

Meet Emily, my 2yr old princess.

A quick photo I took when I was shooting the Wedding last Saturday...

It annoys me when I can't look at a photograph from a 'non-photographers' point of view... it's doing my head in because I can't choose which is 'better' between colour and B&W.

It was only a quick-snap, hence the coat on the back of the chair etc...

She wasn't a bridesmaid, but happened to be in the same colour, as the Wedding scheme - oops.

Being a 'tog, I prefer B&W as her skin is smoother, and he eyes are more captive, but I'm aware the 'prettiness' of the colour one, considering she matches...

Would like your thoughts please, on which you prefer and why

Definitely the colour one! She has very pretty blue eyes and the colours around her in the picture make them look amazing! Although to be fair they are both amazing pics.

Postprocessing smacks of too much thought/effort. She's a two year old girl, just capture as many photos as you can now and worry about how arty they are when she's grown up and left home. Don't think, just take the damned photo!

Id say colour too, there is more life in it.

2 cracking photos, personally i would prefer the colour snap minus the jacket on the chair but its still a great pic. i think in the b&w pic, the wooley jacket merges will the pale skin of the arms. just my personal opinion but as i've already said, 2 great photos

Hi For general photos i think the colour looks very nice and bright
But for a class sharp photo i don't think you can beat black and white
As for your photo's your Daughter looks very nice in B&w or Colour

Nice photos.

I prefer the B&W one. Would like to see a bit more contrast on the fluffy top (it looks a bit blown out in the BW image). And you have done it again with the background ;-) Dragging the eye from the subject. (I know its only a casual photo, but thought it amusing)

Thanks for your opinions... needless to say the B&G won't see the photo anyway, I was just having a play

The b+w one looks like the wedding photographer has had a flash of inspiration, and thus looks more arty and the like. That one would go in my portfolio.
The colour one looks like you've just taken a cracking photo and that one would go on my wall

Colour. She has lovely eyes. So pretty.

As already said, the colour would look nice in an album and get lots of nice photograph and pretty girl comments which are all justified but I went for black and white. If you are looking at your daughter as the subject, the background it too distracting. The black and white leads you to focus more on her face (brings out her features more) which is the subject of your photograph.

Either is very good though, and you got a perfect shot there.

another vote for the colour one - and MY..! doesn't she look SO angelic.......bet she is a real IMP ??

owelly - 10/5/12 at 09:27 PM

I have monochromic vision so both look fine to me!

Xtreme Kermit - 10/5/12 at 09:35 PM

Great photos both. I do prefer the second one, as the jacket on the back of the chair catches my eye too much in the colour one.

Colour has more life, B&W just looks arty to me. Cute kid though. Cheers Ray

Never has a thread title turned out to be so disappointing. Black and white is better imho. Damn you op i was expecting a hot 18 year old you were trying to get rid of.
