Gas vs Infra red Patio heaters
jimgiblett - 14/5/12 at 07:25 PM

Sorry not car related.....

Has anyone had both and got opinions of which type of patio heater is best.

So far I have

Infrared
+ more economical to run
+ Can be put under the patio brolly
+ not effected by wind
+ Less emissions

- need a power supply and cable
- not as waterproof (can you leave them outside in the rain - unplugged obviously)

Thoughts/advice much appreciated

Jim

At a customers house last week, they had IR ones perminantly mounted on the wall. They were great when i flicked them on, hoping the switch was for the awning!

I would definately choose leccy over gas. After all, it is no fun sitting out in the cold and rain, about the only advantage of the gas ones from what I can see.
I am still unsure why the leccy ones are as expensive as they are too. Maybe they are extra safe and so on. But I think the elemnets are also expensive should they get damaged?

Gas is a PITA as it will always run out just when you need it, and everywhere will be shut for a refill.

Wear a jumper?
Sorry I don't really like the idea of either. I know I may sound like a green eco warrior, but do we really need to waste fuel (and your money) trying to heat the outdoors at night?

Prefer my rusty gas bottle

I have the 2000w electric ones which are great and only £25 on eBay

:-)

I have a 9m x 5m garage and two warm it up and have all winter to a nice temperature to work in garage even when it was -5 outside.

Cost about 50p an hour for the pair though

Im the same, I see the point as a cost effective way to heat a garage for a short period to take the chill of yourself and the tools when wearing a coat gets in the way, but otherwise, for outside, more clothes!!

I kinda agree with the sentiment of an extra jumper but missus is more swayed towards jumper and heater.
