Tourist stuff near Torquay
Fred W B - 27/6/12 at 07:10 PM

Evening all.

My wife is in Torquay Devon for 10 days for work. Any "must see" tourist stuff nearby for her to get to on her days off? She has a car.

Cheers

depends how adventurous she is, but

Eden Project - huge plant thing - 70 miles (2hrs) www.edenproject.com

Also depends when, because if it is school holidays and sunny all the roads will be full!

Dartmoor can be amazing this time of year if the mist ever lifts!

Closer to Torquay Babbacombe Model Village is worth a look...

For a lovely day out, she could head along the coast a bit, plenty of lovely spots worth a visit:

Dartmouth - great food, very picturesque, very posh!
Salcombe - much of the same, with amazing scenery to boot
Bantham/Burgh Island - A cracking beach + ride the sea tractor over to the island where Agatha Christy wrote her books. A pint/lunch in the amazingly quaint Pilchard Inn - a lovely day out! [http://www.burghisland.com/about_us_1.html]Burgh Island[/url]Burgh Island

Have a look at geocaching... a fun game and the advantage of finding some awesome spots off the tourist track...

Go to a village called Galmpton then take the small footpassenger ferry to Ditisham and have a drink / lunch in the Ferry Boat Inn on the Dartmouth river.

One of my favorite pubs in the world.

My Dad used to run a hotel nearby called the Lost and Found and we used to make many trips across to the Ferry Boat Inn.
