It sounds perfectly logical to me, I come up with a lot of similar theories to explain my irrational actions to my wife.

I have a theory about driving.
My wife sometimes gets at me for driving to fast, and she says "if I drive slowly , I would miss any possible accident"
My reply is"If I drive slowly and I am involved in an accident, that means , if I where speeding, I would be further down the road missing the
accident completely."
It's worth a try.
