how do you go about about sending money abroad?
my car has been sold to a nice chap in france who has secured the deal with a £1000 paypal transfer.
he now needs to transfer the money to an account of mine. i am always dubious of this so have opened a new account with no money in it. i have sent
the buyer the sort code and account number but he said he needs a international banking code or something? ive never had any experience of this so any
help would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Yes, he'll need a SWIFT and IBAN number to send money internationally.
If you're with Barclays they have a handy convertor:

I'm sure other banks do the same, but I only know about that one as I'm a Barclays customer!
Chris
as above give him swift and IBAN and you're golden.
you'll be able to get these over the counter in you're local branch or on telephone banking
This is only my opinion but i would be asking him to bring either £1000 cash or transfer an extra £1000 and refund his paypal payment upon
collection.
That £1000 is not safe, I speak from experience not hearsay.
how do you mean not safe? is it not safe when its in my bank?
paypal can be reversed so easily that you wouldnt believe it.
Only safe if you stop the paypal direct debit, otherwise if there is a paypal dispute lodged they can and have taken it out of the bank directly.

Even if it's in your bank, if it's reversed paypal will chase it and at £1000 they wouldn't write it off, it may be perfectly ok and
the chances are the guy is 100% straight but a few have spooky it for all.
If I forwarded you £1000 deposit under these circumstances I gaurantee you I could get it back in my account with around 3 clicks of a mouse and
nothing you could do could stop me.
Hello,
I am often in the situation of your buyer.
Give it a look in his position.
He sent you 1.000 £ per paypall.
He is ready to send you the money per bank transfer.
Only at this moment he will come to take the car. (travel, hundreds of miles, crossing the channel etc....)
So, i think that he has lot more to loose thenn the seller.
So, i feel very uncomfortable about that discussion about paypall.
I think that this tells more about the people that talk about it thenn about the buyer.
Personnaly, when i buy a car in UK, i send a deposit per paypall.
Thenn, i pay the rest cash on collection, and i go with the seller to the bank office to check te money.
And i can tell you that after all this, i have many other things to think thenn trying to take my deposit back.
Gerardo
Gerado,
With the greatest of respect unfortunately not everyone in this world is honest.
We took a £560 paypal payment for an item, it was collected by what looked like a perfectly normal family even had a young baby with them, 8 days
later we have a paypal chargeback, paypal asked us for tracking details, we obviously had none, we lost both the item and the payment, if that says a
lot about me then so be it.
In this situation personally I would have accepted a maximum paypal deposit of £50 to hold the car pending full payment be it cash or transfer prior
to collection, I would never ever risk a four figure sum through paypal on a collected item, even if it was the pope and nor would I advise anyone to,
if this offends then I'm sorry.
I would also like to add the last car I sold was to a guy from Holland, no paypal was required, he wired a deposit over, turned up when arranged, paid
cash and left with the car.
