Hypnotherapy....

....anyone had experience or know if it works?

Or is it smoke and mirrors?

A bit of both from what I know, which is very little.

From my understanding you can be put under but you wont do anything you don't want to i.e. shoot someone when you wouldn't normally do so.

Those on stage are mainly actors.

Within therapy it can be used to great effect. Just ask Felix Baumgartner.

I was a fully trained NLP Hynotherapist for a while. It's not a question of does it work or not, you only need to watch Derren Brown to know it does. It's all about the type of hypnotherapy and most importantly the experience and skill of the person doing it.

Trouble is it's all very unregulated (though this has started to change). If it was me I would spend a lot time finding a really good practitioner and go by recommendation not certificates on the wall - most of which can be had far too easily.

Thanks, that was the type of thing I was after.

Cheers,

Rich.

I had it done 10 years ago for Smoking....40 a day to nothing in 1.5 hrs. Haven't had one since (nor wanted one).

I wonder if that can work the other way? Like hypnotising me that I DO want to go for a jog!

I know people it has worked for with the stopping smoking, and I know others who it hasn't worked for. I think a lot of it depends on the person and the way there mind works!

I think it's what someone said earlier - it helps if you REALLY want to do the action (e.g. give up smoking) and just need something extra to keep you at the task. The hypnotherapy supports and helps the person to quit, rather than does the whole job for them.
