House alarm probs
CRAIGR - 3/12/12 at 12:21 PM

One for the massive locosters knowledge

Had a power cut at home last night which set the outside bellbox off and i was unable to turn it off. As oon as the power came back on it stopped.
Alarm is 10 years old or so.
Would this be the backup battery in the main alarm box failing ???
I assume the backup battery in the bellbox is ok due to the bloody thing going all night.lol

I have experienced the same issues with the back up battery failing, on a similar aged system

It'll be the battery backup in the box which should take over when mains fails .
Cheers,
Bob

Is that the main box or bellbox Bob?

Mine was the battery back up, not the outside box. 0430 in the morning for a good hour, neighbour never heard a thing !

the siren will go off when a power cut takes place as a precautionary measure. Older allarms could be disconnected by disabling the power to them hence the failsaf the siren assumes that the alarm has been disabled

Thats exactly what happens Austin man but i am then unable to turn it off and strangely all the movement sensors in the house that normally a red light comes on when you walk by all go to a constant red light .
Gotta be the main box backup battery i guess

Inside the main box ( gubbins box LOL) there will be a battery that will either be fubared or the charging system for it will be non functioning. This is the battery that should keep the system in place during a power cut.
The battery in the bell box has the job of making the sounder and strobe go for a suitable length of time if the main power supply AND the back up battery are BOTH compromised.

As others have said main box about 13 nuggets to replace.
Cheers,
Bob

Oh and the alarm will go off ( unless you can enter in " engineering mode " ) when you remove the cover ( as it sees it as a "tamper" situation ).

Cheers Guys
Locosters come up trumps as always.
Had a looksee in the box and seems a Yuasa one from Amazon at £9 ish is cheapest.

Whilst your sorting it out you might want to think about changing the bell box for a new version.

All systems must shut down after a set period, your system should comply to 20 minute maximum(systems installed in the past few years must only sound for 15 mins)

It only takes one upset neighbour to complain and you will end up in trouble.

Plus if the control panel battery is fubar then shouldn't think the bell unit battery will be far behind.
