Locosters Challenge...What is this ?
NigeEss - 22/1/13 at 11:28 PM

Found this thing in a storeroom that was being cleared out. None of the folks there know
what it is and I certainly don't.

The chain runs in a pulley at the top of the hydraulic ram. The ram when pumped extends upwards. The knob releases the ram.
No sign of anywhere that one end on the chain should be anchored.

Over to the collective....

Looks like the beginnings of a locost workshop hydraulic press for fitting bearings etc

its part of a jack or hoist that lifts twice the height of the cylinder I'd say. One end would have to attach to the ground and the other to the thing to be lifted but thats my guess as its a commonly used principle.

Looks like part of a hydraulic lift like this.

That's it, what we in the engineer surveyor trade call a 'manual, pedestrian controlled fork lift truck'.

Part of an infinite probability drive.
