Acrylic Bath crack repairs
Simon - 19/5/13 at 05:50 PM

Chaps,

A friend has issues with a crack in an acrylic bath (that leaks) - can he use a cheap fibreglass kit to repair; or something else, like what

Cheers very much

Has he tried glue?

try an Epoxy resin like Araldite

Roughen the rear of the crack up with some wet & dry and then use one of the glassfibre repair kits which contain glassfibre mat & resin.
Next for the front, either carefully 'drop in' some of the glassfibre resin or apply some silicon that is suitable for use in water ie Aquarium silicon.

This works, plus a mild heat (a hair dryer) will liquefy the resin, so that it will run into the crack, and speed up the curing time.
Don't use Rapid type epoxy.

First use a Dremmel to drill 1.5 to 2mm holes at the ends of the crack to act as crack arrestors or the crack will just keep growing every time it takes any weight.
