OT: Two Days Work in Europe... do I need paperwork?

Hi,

I may have to collect something from Belgium for work. What I need to know is, do I need any paperwork or a visa or anything like that?

If it comes off I only have to drive there, collect the item, and drive back. I don't fancy getting stopped by the Belgian or French Police and having to explain myself....

Any help appreciated

No you don't need anything, I did this several times last year, just a GB plate on the car, a handfull of bulbs a poundland first aid kit, and a hi vis fire warden vest I blagged of one of our security men.

The trip is for work in a Van (well, chassis cab pick up). Does this make a difference?

You also need a copy of the v5 and an insurance certificate and written permission to take the vehicle abroad.

Having taken my company car abroad a few times I have been asked for documents before departure.

No visa or anything required - just make sure you have everything needed to drive legally in Europe.

Vehicle docs are important - as are the extras you need to carry (vests, bulbs etc)

If it's a work vehicle, ask your employer for a copy of the insurance docs and the v5 reg doc. If it's a leased vehicle, you need a letter of authority from the lease co since your taking their vehicle abroad (a formality).

As above, make sure you have bulbs, first aid kit, hi vis vest, warning triangle etc.

Other than that, have fun and pick up some decent wine on your way home.

You will definitely need documentation on the items you are bringing back as you will be a company representative rather than a private individual from the point of view of importing them. You should find out whether they need duty paying on the way in to the country and have the means to pay. Oh and don't be surprised if they want to search the van for illegals tagging along.
