Multi-Address Route Planning
John P - 31/7/13 at 03:34 PM

We’re going down to Paignton in Devon to look for a house or bungalow and have around 10 possibles to look at.

To save wasting time are there any free sites where you can enter say all ten postcodes and it will sort out the best route?

John.

Google maps allows you to add as many destinations as you like, but wont work out shortest route IIRC, but thats easy enough to work out once each address is plotted on to a map.

batchgeo.com

Dump in the addresses from a spreadsheet and it'll plot them all.

You'll still need to work out the best route yourself but it at least shows you where they all are.

Navigator on my Android phone will let you add destinations and find the shortest or quickest route. But for 'puter based stuff try

http://www.routes.tomtom.com/

etc...

Its the classic "traveling salesman problem".

More difficult to get the optimal answer than you might have expected

Easiest to just plot on a map and make a decent guess

Paignton is'nt that big! if you explore a bit it will give you a better feel for the area. after all, half of the town is sea.
