Any alarm engineers on here?

I have a peculiar problem with mine, when I key in the number to set the alarm it goes through the beep beep beep 20 second exit bit then the internal alarm sounds.. keying the number back in stops this but the entry/exit led stays red to indicate a fault?

I've googled this but cant find anything specific.

Any help would be mucho appreciated.

What system are you using and what type of sensor is the entry/exit?

I'm not an expert by any means but have done a few ( less than 10 ). From your description I'd say the entry/exit contacts are faulty or the wiring to them.
I'd imagine its either a pir sensor unit or magnetic contacts on the door. Most systems have a walk test function where you can see/hear the individual circuits working.If your entry/exit zone does not beep on the control panel when you walk test it ( pir) or open/shut the door ( magnetic contacts) then you need a new pir ( or check the wiring for continuity ) or a contact set ( again or check the wiring for continuity.

Its PIR above the door. Asked the installer to put contacts on the door but I think cause its a brick wall he couldn't be bothered.

I've already identified the sensor on zone 6 is goosed so might just change them all.

Did a walk test, opened the back door and nought happened.. didnt go any further

Its a Scantronic 9448 btw

OK just done another walk test, the entry/exit led flashes red and the panel beeps loud and fast.

I'll get some new sensors and see how I get on.

If its a PIR and you do a walk test you need to activate more than 1 of the beams it produces to activate it.

Just wave your hand in front of it is the easiest way.

do a walk test see what happens if the PIR does nothing just replace it.

Be aware if you dont know the engineer code the alarm will go off when you take the cover off the PIR as you will activate the tamper switch inside.

you should be able to enter your code to stop the alarm once you have removed the cover.

You could always swap the PIR on the entry/exit door to a contact if you would prefer, I prefer them on doors to be honest.

Yes mate, got that guide, it takes a big wave in front of the PIR to get it to light up.

Problem is a soon as I entry the walk test the entry/exit red led is on and the panel makes a racket. Thats before I get to PIR!

I don't know how they work with a 220 volt system, the ones here in Canada run on 12 volts DC, I work for an alarm

company. Are your sensors hard wired or battery powered?

Sounds like the PIR is faulty then as it is activating without anything activating it.

swap it out and you should be back on track.

OK it looks like its seeing you but you need to confirn is it latching its relay on the contacts side

Thanks for all the help chaps, I've learned how it works now and found the PIR had a contact wire hanging out. Connected that and it works fine.

Now I've found the back door isnt working, some dude (the installer I reckon) has connected both contact wires to the same post...

I'm wondering now what other short cuts the lazy git has done..

I would just go round all the detectors and check, won't take long and better safe than sorry.
