Washing machine Q
theconrodkid - 25/6/14 at 05:01 PM

bit out of my depth with these fangled machines .
i have a new Beko, just one fill hose so i connected it to the blue tap under the sink, seems blue is hot so it is hot filling,is this going to cause a problem ?.
i put it on and went out last night, came back about 1 hour after it had finished and the washing was still steaming, obviously as it hot fills,as above is this a prob or just saving on the electric bill ?.

If it's a single fill hose it's should be cold.
There is a electric heater inside to warm the water.

It depends on the temperature rating of the hose. Cold fill hoses are rated at 20degrees, Hot at 90degrees, so the cold hose will soften and blow off. Imagine the state of the kitchen if you go out and it does.
Seen this many times, especially with Dishwashers. I would connect it to the Cold supply. ASAP.

I would think when it rinses it will use cold water so if you use hot water that will not happen

Never mind the kitchen, I saw what happened to a house where someone loaded the dishwasher and switched it on, just as they left for a fortnights holiday ! Full-bore hot water from a combi-boiler hadn't only stripped every inch of wall-paper, but had also dropped every ceiling and started on the plaster on the walls!

I'd swop it to the cold feed, ASAP !

Regards
Jon

The other issue nobody has mentioned is that of shrinking clothing!
I had a washing machine replaced in a rental. Few weeks later the tenants complained it was using all the hot water. And they clothing was getting smaller...
Guess what Comet/currys installers had done.....

I don't think the tenants got very far re compensation either (I managed to swerve that one and put them in direct touch with the supplier)

Be careful Steve!!!

If you ask her about it, she'll think your taking an interest and might ask you to start using it.

Best keep quiet and leave things as they are

It will, just with hot water.

As for shrinking clothes - not overly likely unless your tap water temp is massively hot? Most washing machines wash on 40ish anyway, most taps are 55ish.

Slight overkill on the panic here, just swap it over as soon as possible.

Any cold water hose rated to 20C would be a bit pathetic? Given that on a hot day it could get hotter than that in the UK (until the water flowed, but it's still pressurised while it could be >>20C!).
