I need to replace the 12v male connector (goes into lighter socket) for a Panasonic Toughbook laptop charger pack.
I have 2 wires going from the adapter to the male connector. A solid black one and a black one with a thin white stripe along its length.
Unfortunately I threw away the old connector, and didn't check which was running to live. Doh!
I don't have my multi-meter with me.
I have always thought that the wire with the thin white stripe would be the +ve... is this correct?
Cheers!

From my experience that is usually correct.

I would go for that also
There is often a symbol next to the socket on things which confirms which is the positive.
Although I agree that the centre is usually +ve
Cheers. Will have a look when next in the office.

Cheers. The first of those symbols appears on the adapter (+ve polarity). I've know nothing about that symbol... can I determine from it that the black wire with the thin white stripe is +ve and the solid black -ve?
Ta muchly.
Lol... blew the fuse!
I guess the Black/White is not the +ve!
