Just trying to get my head round this, I'm making a coffee table out of a rover v8 bock with the rods/pistons bolted to the block face to hold
the glass.
I can use the threaded holes where the head bolts go in which are 7/16 unf as far as I can tell.
obviously the big end bolt holes are smaller than that ( 3/8"? ) so I thought I could put thread inserts in the holes then use allen bolts
though the big bolt holes to secure them. I think that describes things
So would any kind person please be able to tell me what size thread inserts and bolts would work?
Cheers
Mark
I can't really follow your description but I think you are doing the same as this
Simplest solution would be to bore out the con rod from 3/8" to 7/16" it's less than 2mm bigger so there should be enough meat on the
rod. You could then use 7/16" unf cap screw.
If you don't want to bore the rod then I would make a stepped stud with one half 7/16" unf and the other half any thread that suited you for
example m8.

Yes indeed that is the desired effect

I like that, but if your going to use the original threads they're unc.

Just thinking, I could make some hybrid studs by cutting the lower (threaded) part of the head bolts and welding them to thinner threaded bar which I
can then pop the con rods onto and use a suitable nut.
Sound like a plan?

Sounds like a good plan, that's why I suggested it!
