I've always known that they were much longer courses than UK Hillclimbs, what I didn't realise was the speeds they were reaching.
Just found this video - Cochones like Watermelons as the saying goes.
European Hillclimb Video

They're going pretty quick those crazy Germans!
That merc and bmw sounded like an electric toothbrush but seriously shifted. And that car with REMUS on the back, what is it? And how does it move so quickly?
that remus car is a lancia delta S4 , of GpB world rally car fame .
Supercharged and turbocharged !!
anyway , deffo looks like ive got have a go at that !!! WOW
Remus car. Lancia Delta Integrale that looks to have had a few slight mods.
Beat me to it.
The F3000 cars make my eyes hurt.

Anyone eles notice the rather odd situation about a minute when two nearly had a coming together?
Not normally a tin-top man but I do like the little maroon coloured car at the start. I think its a Darrian. And those single seater drivers are
unbelieveable...
Andy
Thinking about it, is Volvorsport's avatar a darrian?
Andy
haha , ive been found out !! , i used to work for darrian cars after studying for my degree - basically where i learnt my GRP trade . That car is
james Hoseasons V8 rally car , was the last one i worked on before leaving - in fact i built the chassis , the other lads did the roll cage etc .
I kept in touch with james since he comes from norwich , and repaired it whe he had an off at jersey I must email him ctually to see how things
are going .
I dont think that red car is a darrian , its more like a clan , ill have another closer look and give a verdict
Deffo not a darrian , maybe a mini marcos heavily modified ? - could be a real early davrian , im still dubious on that

cracking..and well crazy...
The first car, I am almost certain, is a Renault alpine A310. They are V6 rear engine, rear wheel drive.
The buzz sound of the Merc and BMW sounds like a supercharger, not very nice noise, but effective.
The Lancia Integrale was also 4x4, I think.
Volvosport. Is there such a thing as Darrian, and is it different from Davrian? So, you have experience with GRP monocoques? Would you be willing
to share your knowledge?
It seems to me that this race is very different from a UK hill climb. In the UK it is usually done in narrow, and short farm roads, while this looks
more like a special stage road rally.
Finally, don't sequential gearboxes rock?
Cheers
KT
The red / maroon car. It's difficult to tell with a modsports ( I know, I sound old ). In sillhoutte it looks a bit like a unipower GT only
bigger. And from the back, just like an Alpine A310. But.....
Look at the top trailing edge of the doors.
Lotus Europa ? More specifically, one of the modern Banks Europas ?

yeah , ill share knowledge , what ya wanna know ?
Still the front grill on that isnt right . A310 i thought were 4 cyl 1500 untl the a610 came along altho yes i remember , they were V6 . come to
thimk of it looks completely like an elan front end .
oh , and if you like alpines guess what this is
ive posted some other darrian stuff , like the sierra front upright .
The difference was all darrians are mid engined , and a davrian was rear engined altho several alternatives were made . More info ? - check out the
new davrian register

Was that green car an Opel Ascona?. I haven't seen one of those for years. I knew someone with a yellow one years ago. Horrible colour but nice drive.

Can I put my pedant hat on and clear something up here please? The car with the REMUS badge on it is one of these
a Lancia Delta S4, whose similarity to the Lancia Delta Integrale is limited to sharing the same name, possibly a few components and a visual
resemblance, but thats where it ENDS!
The S4 was built for the sole purpose of winning rallies (and beating those dastardly Audi engineers and their new-fangled Quattro rally car) and was
built in accordance with the Group B rules of the day. Therefore, it had either a semi or fully space framed chassis, composite body panels where
possible, a North/South mid-mounted 1.8 litre 16v in-line 4 motor (I think a derivative of the famous Fiat Twin Cam) with, as mentioned by someone
else, super and turbocharging. The idea was that the blower provided the oomph at low revs and the turbo took over when the blower reached its limit.
This page has some good stats on the car if you wanna look. If you
want to see what would have come next had Group B not been banned do a search for Lancia ECV, even more mental!
Speaking of mental, all of those featured in the vid have Jacobs the size of melons
and brains of custard!
How else can you explain the insane speeds they are doing, with solid objects a fag papers thickness away!
As regards the cars, I think the reason for the Merc and Beemer sounding like they are blown is 'cos they are ex DTM cars, which at one period
all ran V6 or straight six motors, which idled, IDLED, at 5000rpm and revved to 12,000rpm! THis I know because I stood boggle-eyed watching and
listening at the Melbourne hairpin and Donnington as they howled their way around, superb. The Delta S4 just sounds other worldly, what with the bark
of an in-line 4, the pop and whoosh of a turbo, the eldritch howl of a supercharger and the whine of a tortured transmission.
Magic
The red car looks very much like a highly modified Pantera to me!
It has been drasticaly lowered.
Terry
you have U2U krlthms
There is a pretty great road near Colmar in the Alsace region of France which is used as a hillclimb for one weekend in September I think it is. Never
been there for the event but it is a good drive and much longer than any UK hillclimb.
You would almost certainly not get permission to close a road in England for that, even if we had one which was worth using.
Nice video
