Garden Shredder - improving exhaust
Sarah - 19/7/25 at 11:59 AM

I have one of these https://forest-master.com/compact-petrol-wood-chipper-6hp-direct-drive/ shredder, and though it's great for the shredding part, it has a tendency to block in the "exhaust".

So, looking at the shredder side, you'll see a bit of tube with a plastic cover. This houses a nut and locknut.

I have had the idea to have a centrifugal fan (connected via socket over locknut) and housing (with mounting via tube clamp over above tube) blowing into bottom of exit housing - it'll be helpful if I need blow shreddings over a hedge!

Trouble is, I have no idea how to size the fan, any ideas please? Motor no load speed is about 3500 rpm

Sorry but I can’t see a tube with a plastic cover except the oil filler

Can you explain a bit more please

I see now , would it be better with a electric fan I suppose it depends on electric supply
Would the drive of the lock nut be safe ?
Good luck if you manage to sort it out
Let us know how you get on
