Origins of Usernames
zilspeed - 12/7/05 at 11:30 AM

Right - 'fess up time.

All of you with contrived / made up usernames, how did you get them ?

There must be a story behind every weird username, said the man with 'zilspeed' on his birth certificate

Mango - you're first...

smart51 - 12/7/05 at 11:38 AM

Smart51 is the name I go by on the smart owners club website. It was a matter of choosing a name that I could remember that wasn't used already.

NS Dev - 12/7/05 at 11:42 AM

NS Dev is just short for Nathaniel Seviour (my name!) Developments, the name that used to get stuck on anything that I made for other people

Alan B - 12/7/05 at 11:48 AM

David Jenkins - 12/7/05 at 12:27 PM

My real name is Bishop Horatio T. Mouseplaster, and I use 'david jenkins' solely to confuse.

[Edited on 12/7/05 by David Jenkins]

jonbeedle - 12/7/05 at 12:34 PM

Mine is one word made up of my first and second names.
Quite clever I thought!

ned - 12/7/05 at 12:39 PM

i once foolishly said 'toodle pip' as i left the office one day and it sorta stuck

that was at a previous office and no one where i work now actually know's about it, but i like it so it stayed as an internet alias...

Ned.

nick205 - 12/7/05 at 12:54 PM

my name's Nick and I have a real soft spot for the Pug 205GTi....Nick205. It was also my name on the Peugeot Sport Club forum, although I lost interest in that as it got more and more diluted.

Incidentally I seem to remember Ned being on there as Ned as well

jambojeef - 12/7/05 at 01:03 PM

My boss when I was on work experience at school bought me a key ring back from mombasa but sadly "Geoff" got lost in translation and it was carved with "Jambo" on one side and "Jeef" on the other - I think jambo means hello?! Anyone?

Geoff

ned - 12/7/05 at 01:06 PM

oo yes, had forgotten about that one, me login still seems to work, thanks nick

Fozzie - 12/7/05 at 01:08 PM

I have had the nickname of Fozzie since primary school! I think most people with the surname of Foster get called Fozzie. My brother neice and nephew all got called Fozzie.
In my case it has stuck, but, I like it,... which is nice

Fozzie

Jumpy Guy - 12/7/05 at 01:08 PM

used to snowboard quite a lot, and was on a snowboard forum years ago..

was asking a couple of the guys how to do big jumps, how to land jumps, how to grab in jumps, and met them on the slopes (milton Keynes) a few weeks later

Forever more, i was the "Jumpy Guy"

Locost? - 12/7/05 at 01:16 PM

£250 HA HA HA

wheelsinsteadofhooves - 12/7/05 at 01:27 PM

my mates were looking for a name for some club nights they were going to put on a few years ago. they were talking about names in a bar in manchester and someone they knew overheard them and thought they said "wheels instead of hooves". it sort of stuck ever since and is used for most things done by myself and my mates. i thought the "wheels" idea, and the development over other forms of transport, was rather appropiate too.
the nights are still going - mainly at the electroworks in angel but all over london town (and once in new york/japan/barcelona to name but a few). come along.

scutter - 12/7/05 at 01:32 PM

I used to be one of two airmen at Boscombe down, we both got stuck with sweeping the hanger floor on Friday mornings,

Our boss was a big Red Dwarf fan so we were both Scutters, mine just stuck.

Atb Dan.

zenarcher - 12/7/05 at 01:35 PM

Zen Archer is a track from my favorite album "A Wizard a true Star" by Todd Rundgren.

Rundgren says that Zen Archer was the nemisis of a, always naked, Comic strip heroine Phoebe Zeitgeist, who appeared in an American magazine "The Evergreen Review"

scoobyis2cool - 12/7/05 at 01:39 PM

I was trying to think of an email address years ago and I like Imprezas and Scooby Doo, so Scoobyiscool seemed quite appropriate. Someone already had that though so I added the '2' in the middle and I haven't bothered to change it since

Pete

Danozeman - 12/7/05 at 01:57 PM

Mines a boring reason. When i signed up for hotmail thats the only name it let me have. And a bloke at work keeps saying "book him Danno" to me. After all my name is Dan and i am a man ( so ive been told). Just with a rastafarian touch. "Danozeman".

Im called V8dan on the forums iv signed on to recently. Should have changed it on here after id been away from here for a couple of years so nobody noticed.

Benzine - 12/7/05 at 02:59 PM

Added 'zine' to my name and it's Dutch for 'Petrol'

JAG - 12/7/05 at 03:05 PM

Really dull - JAG is my initials.

My Dad thought it would be one less thing for the kids at school to take the pi55 over.

They found plenty of others though

bob - 12/7/05 at 03:18 PM

Firearms are a hobby, and my birthday is May 26th, same as "The Duke".

Mad Dave - 12/7/05 at 03:31 PM

We used to regularly meet up on a Sunday morning on the bikes for the breakfast run. People that knew how I ride didn't say much when we finally got to Greasy Vera's for the full english, it was the other guys that said "you are mad Dave". The name stuck!

I decided early last year to ride less after a 90mph accident when I sprained my ankle (yes thats right I was very lucky!). This was my 9th crash and I started to look for a safer alternative, enter the Indy ZX9R.

I still ride the bike but tend to ride alone and on one wheel!

MikeR - 12/7/05 at 03:35 PM

errm..... two of us where called Mike, it got confusing so we both took the first initial of our surnames to differentiate and tadaaaa

MikeR was born (14 years ago!)

skippad - 12/7/05 at 03:51 PM

zilspeed - 12/7/05 at 05:33 PM

My old man had a couple of Ladas in the early 80s - which my brother and I in our infinite wisdom decided to call Zils after the Russian limos. My old man eventually was called zil as well by me and brother. Father was not amused.
This was about the same time that zakspeed were farting about at the back end of the grid in F1, so it was a short leap from zakspeed to zilspeed.

Father was even less amused at this.

I felt I had to explain all of this after James Seabass' parter in crime called me zil at Forrestburn a couple of weeks ago.

My brother nearly choked with laughter at the very thought - you had to be there.

JoelP - 12/7/05 at 05:43 PM

jollygreengiant - 12/7/05 at 06:33 PM

You choose the real answer : -

1, I'm Vegetarian that ALWAYS leave the girls smilling because of the size of my man-hood.

2, I'm 6' 4" tall and worked for the AA wearing LARGE green overalls and always cracked jokes.

3, I'm a 3' 4" midget with manic drepressive tendancies and a double personality.

RoadkillUK - 12/7/05 at 06:45 PM

Many years ago I got online and decided to play Quake2.

After a couple of games of being 'Player' I decided I needed an alias. So, for no reason at all I decided on 'Roadkill', I only add the UK for the forums as Roadkill is usually taken.

Exciting eh?

Cita - 12/7/05 at 06:55 PM

Rorty - 13/7/05 at 05:09 AM

"Rorty [Rawrti] adj (sl) in good spirits, cheerful"
I've traded under the name since the mid eighties so it made sense to use it here too.
My nickname is Stallion of the God of Love which is a bit long for a user name, but as Rorty describes me equally well and is somewhat more sucinct, I chose to use that instead.

niceperson709 - 13/7/05 at 06:07 AM

well I used to have this little Honda cb100 and as the adds in the seventies said "You meet the Nicest people on a Honda " so I am a Niceperson and the 709 is a startrek reference as well as the name of the streetfighter bike I have ........
best wishes

Isn't streetfighter just another name for a bike that's been smashed and subsequently had the fairing ripped off and tossed?
I really like some streetfighters and regularly get Streetfighters magazine for a bit of a look see.

flyingkiwi - 13/7/05 at 11:20 AM

Got mine when I first came over to the uk and started taking flying lessons. One of the instructors came over and said "eh, a flying kiwi then?" (no idea why) and the name stuck. Pretty much everything I do now has "The flying kiwi" attached to it.

The Kiwi
Eats, roots shoots and leaves

marktigere1 - 13/7/05 at 03:35 PM

My names Mark.

The tigere1 bit is a Tiger Cat E1. Always wanted to build one and I almost did until I found this forum.

To open a can of worms, I believe the Tiger E1 is one of the best looking seven replicas IMHO, engineering aside, so the Tiger E1 bit stayed when I joined the forum.

Hence marktigere1.

Cheers

Mark

escary - 13/7/05 at 06:54 PM

My name is Ewan Scrymgeour

Escary, worst ever spelling of my name on a letter.

Told my mates and ( ok ok Guy who i pay money to to say he is a mate) and he almost wet himself.

Thought it was funny.

Ewan

Guinness - 13/7/05 at 07:06 PM

Guess what I was drinking while pondering my user name ?

Scubastu - 13/7/05 at 07:07 PM

A bloke at work used to call me Scoobystu, but that sounds like I'm either a Subaru freak or "one of those pesky kids!"

Changed it to Scubastu when I qualified as a diver.

My full name is Alejandro López or Álex López (we use Álex as a short for Alejandro in Spain). Long ago I picked these letters: ALEx lopeZ, for some internet account, I now use that all the time..

Colibrí is also some bird in Spanish, I guess the same bird?

givemethebighammer - 15/7/05 at 08:05 AM

The shout of anger after I have smashed my knuckles again trying to undo a rusted bolt. The biggest hammer more often than not never fixes the problem in hand, but somehow beating the s**t out of it sure makes me feel better.
