want walking ? want theme parks ?
want beaches ? want culture ?

i like newquay and torquay, very nice places but a little further east. If you like boats, any lil fishing village will do!

St Ives is a must visit. (If you can find a car park)

Bodmin moor if you fancy something remote.

Perranporth

great beach (little else!) bit further south along the north coast from Newquay.

Fowey

On the south coast by St Austell. Lovely harbour, quaint town, hundreds of boats from small sailing boats to steam powered launches to large tankers.

Charlestown

Close to Fowey. Unusual harbour with large sealed dock area and three 'tall ships' - although the tall ships aren't always in.

St Austell

On the south coast famous for The Eden Project.

Penhale

It's on the Lizzard peninsula and near to Goonhill Earth Station. Great place to visit for kids and adults.

Porthcurno

Very close to Lands End. The Minnack Theatre - depends what's on. More for the adults than kids but a superb place to either catch a show or just visit during the day to see the views and look at this remarkable open air theatre.

I took my Locost down there recently, see the thread in 'Driving' or my photo archive for piccys of Perranporth beach.

If your looking for old monuments try Mark Allanson


(where he lives actully St Micheals mount ,then on to Penzance for the shopping and back to St Ives for ice cream with clotted cream and a stick of rock for us all)

Padstow's pretty much my favourite town in Cornwall. It's got a bit touristy in last few years and most of it seems to have been bought by Rick Stein but it's still nice.

Almost worth the trip there to visit The Buttermilk Shop the most amazing fudge shop ever. Ask for the Scottish Tablet they do... 100% tooth rot in one glorious mouthful.

If you have other older kids then crab lines off the jetty/harbour wall was always one of my favourite afternoon entertainments. There's a brilliant little cinema there too. (Well it seemed brilliant to my parents 15 years ago when it was pissing down with rain and we couldn't be taken to the beach! ).

Nice drive is the "B" coastal rouad running South from St Ives to Cape Cornwall.

Do it on a nice sunny evening about 7pm onwards.. Beautiful countryside views, and excellent setting sun over the sea.. Always my favourite evening drive.

Visit Mark Allanson.. got a Bootiful Locost..

Go to davidstow there's an abandoned airfield there where you can do the clarkson thing (Hooning). If there are no learners on the runway at the time that is!!!

I had my honeymoon in polruan/fowey in 1993 it is a very nice part of the country,i even got to see some of it

There's a run-what-yer-brung drag meet at Portreath air base this Sat and Sun.
Its predominantly for bikes, but there may be a couple of 'interesting' cars entered.

Did someone say Culture in Cornwall surely not. Not that side of the Taimar Bridge

Head west to Newlyn - a proper fishing port,then on to Mousehole (pronounced mouzel) Visit the Minack theatre - you don't have to suffer any culture,just go when there's no play -stunning view and mostly built by one woman.

For the best drive in Britain take the coastal road from Mousehole onwards taking in the Minack,avoid Land's End theme park and on to Sennen,Zennor (if you like wood carvings go to the church and see the mermaid pew)

If you like boats there's the National Boaty Museum in Falmouth.

Heligan Gardens near Mevagissey are well worth the trip. The Eden Business -it's a greenhouse and likely to be too hot for a littlun.

Tyrrells - best gift shop in Cornwall and the earthly home of smuttygifts.com -a blatant plug for my shop and well off the tourist track.

I could go on.............

PS The very strangest place is Madron wishing well - the trees there are covered with strips of cloth and it's quite odd. Nearby is Men an Tol - an ancient stone circle with a difference - you'll see!

I think I can handle some of that.

I wasn't too impressed with The Eden Project but my cousin worked at The Lost Gardens of Heligan (same owners) and reckoned it was really good.
