Oil Leak finally traced
locodude - 30/3/02 at 05:25 PM

Hi Guys
Some of you may remember that my newly rebuilt crossflow was leaking oil from around the dipstick tube area. Well I found the source and it was'nt either the dipstick tube or the breather can (which I've changed for an ally elbow thing from Burtons). You'll never guess where it was coming from!
Answers on a postcard to....
First one to guess wins a free flyscreen!!!

Dazza - 30/3/02 at 08:37 PM

BOB, when did you get the 4th star?????

bob - 30/3/02 at 08:37 PM

Uphill is a term used on the dark side,as in uphill gardening.

locodude - 30/3/02 at 08:44 PM

Hi All
It was my oil leak and I'll tell you when I'm good and ready.
Chris
p.s. there must be a fly out there somewhere that needs a screen

bob - 30/3/02 at 08:49 PM

4 star a thing of the past what a great smell too.
now this oil leak.errrr oil filler cap

bob - 30/3/02 at 08:52 PM

ofcourse it was the dipstick, every time you whip it out a bit of oil drops down.
easy i'll pick sceen up at stoneleigh thanks chris.

Dazza - 30/3/02 at 08:57 PM

locodude - 30/3/02 at 09:19 PM

chrisg - 30/3/02 at 11:12 PM

you just poured oil, out of a can, with the express purpose of anoying us with this pointless quest.

I no longer care where it CAME from but I hope it GOES on your poofy gloves!

Cheers

Chris

chrisg - 30/3/02 at 11:15 PM

It can't be the dipstick, otherwise it would be on the drivers seat!

locodude - 30/3/02 at 11:48 PM

Right, That's it
No one gets a screen!
The oil was coming from thr breather hole in the side of the mechanical fuel pump. It was dribbling down the body of the pump and then blown onto the bellhousing when traveling at speed!
Basically the pump was shafted, when I took it off it was slacker than a whores fanny.
Pump replaced with spare one and now engine is drier than snuff in a snuff factory that's just been de-humidified. Ok then, as dry as a crossflow will ever be. i.e. not very!
Mystery solved.

chrisg - 30/3/02 at 11:54 PM

err i'll guess, um.......Fuel pump breather

I'll have some black stuff for my sidescreens instead of the fly screen!

Cheers

Chris
