Sounds like it could be a coil pack failed? that would put the engine management light on Can't remember if Renault use a seperate coil pack for no's 1&4 and 2&3 if they do change them over and see what happens.

Has the battery died again since?

And does it flash when re-connecting the terminals as if something is shorting or has failed to cause the battery to go flat in the 1st place.

I had an exhaust replaced and they snapped the clips holding the wireing loom, alternator wires slumped onto the exhaust and it was doing some really strange things like dropping onto 2 cylineders, radio going off, lights dimming, battery myestriously flat etc while it proceded to burn its way through!

Lucky I found it as an unfused wires proceded to short to earth!

If the spark plugs are deep in the head make sure the leads snap onto the top of the plug.

Maybe even take a plug out and plug it into the lead just to make sure theres a good connection and that the lead hasn't gone slack.

As sometimes they connect but not very well giving a weak spark and hence a slight misfire.
