Mustang quicker than a Honda S2000 off the lights??!?!

Would you Adam and Eve it??

Just had a bit of a 'ding-dong' off the lights with a Honda S2000 (am in yankeeland so it was a US spec S2000, probably missing a few horseys for US emissions regs).

I thought those S2000s were faster than that.

at 90 (kph, you understand id never break the law!), he was still a car length behind me.

I think that over a ton he would have had me: better aerodynamics and another cog in the 'box. Oh, and the screaming 8000RPM rev limit.

Still surprised, though.

Torque - does wonders for acceleration from a stand still.

Thats true.

I have 240lbft, he had about 160.

hehehe.

also with an S2000 you have to rev the snot out of thing to achieve that. With a Mustang V8 its got a good amount of torque right from idle.

Also in Yankeeland....

Depends on the driver too, missed or slow shifts and how much the other person wants it.

"There is no replacement for displacement"

Your 5 liters to his 2.2 liters....yeah its torque!

I am thinking a seven powered s2000 positions would be reversed.

8000rpm limit???????????????

and the rest!!!!! 9000 revs!!!!!

Might be more can't remember! Certainly driving my mums one it spins to 9000 no probs but I wasn't watching closely enough to see where the hard cut came in!

Certainly a mustang will probably beat it off the lights, but then the S2000 can actually get around a corner and stay on the road!!!

mookaloid - 16/2/06 at 08:51 AM

Clearly there were no corners involved.......

hmmmmm, re my post above, clearly US spec S2000's must have different engines then!

We only have 2 litres not 2.2, but 9000 revs and 240hp from the 2.0....................

................yea and huge grunt! Don't get me wrong I love V8's!!!

My ride to Le Mans and back last year in the current Ultima GTR demonstrator made sure of that.

650+ hp chevy at nearly 8000rpm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oi, stop bragging )

remember you're toy car only has 4 cylinders and your real car is still 2 short.

iank - 16/2/06 at 01:11 PM

<tongue in cheek>
Are you sure he was really trying? Could have been bimbling away from the lights while cruising

Also hire cars are a good 10-20% faster than ones that are owned by people who care about them
</tongue in cheek>

ed_crouch - 16/2/06 at 01:17 PM

I only have the 4.0 V6!!! NOT the V8.

I could hear him revving the tits off it about 20 feet behind me!

He was gaining on me by the time I cried off (about 95 ish).

And yes, there were no corners involved!! He'd have crucified me!

But the point about Hire cars being faster is absolutely tue: they are faster, have higher rev limits, are narrower and have more ground clearance! All of them!
