Race Engines-Uni Project

Hi guys I have been set a uni project in which I have to design/improve a beathing system (intake and exhaust) for a race engine. I need to choose an engine on which to apply the design.

Just woundered if anyone could suggest an engine? Basically its needs to be used in a race series (preferably many) and there must be information/drawings/figures available for it so I can obtain the details/dimensions.

Thanks

Colin

PS links/websites would be a great help

Formula Ford is a relatively popular race series. And all the cars use the same engines.

Or seeing as you are uni, try getting into the Formula Student circles, most of the cars are based around 4cyl 600cc bike engines and theres plenty of info available on them.

the formula student ones might not be the best idea as they are bike engines so tend to have fairly well developed heads so limiting what you could improve.

does it have to be a specific engine or a range if so something like the zetec/duratec is used across many race series but in different guises.

Crossflow sounds the ticket, still a lot of them out there and a nice simple engine, also a lot of tuning info out there already and the crossflow benifits greatly from better breathing to boot.

Pintos are used in a lot of grass track racing as well as kitcars.

Another option could be the VX 2.0l
