yeah id be interested to see what POR15 is like, i was gonna spray smootherite but im not hugly impressed with it evan when i gave it proper coats within 8 hours

Avoneer - 1/3/06 at 08:31 PM

Yep - POR15 all the way.

2 "paiting" coats with brush and a sprayed on topcoat.

All in a day is the plan.

Seen a few pics of a few chassis and the finish is as good as powdercoat, but in theory, the POR should be a lot better in general and will work out under £100 for everything including the degreaser and zinc etch stuff.

ooow keep us posted.

Black or silver I really like silver. Where are you getting it from?

Avoneer - 1/3/06 at 10:41 PM

Black.

I've already got all the stuff from Frost.

Just need a few folk to make the painting a little less tedious.

Indykid is already coming.

If you use metal ready to prepare the surface, after you wash the stuff off make wipe down the chassis and start painting ASAP. I was amazed to see a coating of rust appear within 20 minutes!
POR 15 can give a great finish BUT be careful of runs.. Let the wife help me with mine and I now have lumps and bumps all over the place... I did use the silver POR15 though which I think is a little thicker ?
Also believe what they say on the tin.... I somehow got a small splash on my forehead and it was there for 3 days...

Enjoy!

A word of warning to anyone thinking of using Hammerite/Smoothrite - when my chassis was new in 1986, the original owner Hammerited it. Now, where it has flaked off (as it is too hard) and where I've had to *ahem* repair the chassis, I can only use Hammerite as anything else will react! The plan this winter was a chassis-up rebuild, including repainting the chassis, but it just hasn't happened.

Hey-ho, that's next winter sorted then!

p.s. I woulda come along as free beer always does it for me, but I'm moving house.... Sorry!
