Brake disk uprades for tin top
DaveFJ - 7/3/06 at 01:03 PM

I have noticed that my front disks on my tin top are showing a pronounced lip... will check the wear when I can find out thw limits... but, I think i need to replace them.

So, my question is this:

what are others opinions on replacement discs ?

My car is a Fiat Stilo 2.4 Abarth and NEEDS good brakes!

After a little research my options seem to be EBC discs and pads (have heard bad things about their disks)

Balckdiamond disks drilled and/or grooved(again heard bad things)

Standard Fiat OEM items (crap braking and wear rate! - loads of fade)

Uprated items from Brakes international (don't know what make they supply ? but cheap!)

I have heard that Black diamond drilled disks are prone to cracking?

Any other thoughts ?

had black diamond drilled and groved on my 309 and with the black diamond or standard 309 disks they awere fine.

No cracking. I have heard of problems when used with EBC green stuff pads, these can warp disks due to the amount of heat they generate.

How about just drilled or groved disks and some mintex 1133 pads.

It's a matter of finding disks made for my car... so far only those I mentioned seem to make them..

One name springs to mind - Tarox. Have a look here.

Pricey, but excellent quality.

Cheers,

Yup - they were crap! lots of fade... and never felt like they were really going to stop you!

I've had EBC standard replacement disks on my last 3 cars and had no problems with any of them with Ferodo road pads. The fade is as likely to be old fluid as brake disks and pads.

Yup tarox do seem to do a set for my car ... £195 a pair! or black diamond grooved disks for £115 .......

are they worth the difference ?

Well fluid is being replaced at service in a few weeks so we shall see! A lot of 'knowledgeable' (ahem!) people have told me that Fiat OEM pads/disks are known to be crap....

how about Brembo disks? (£173) any thoughts ?

EBC greenstuff pads come in at £40
Brembo pads are £106 !!! ouch
So I am thinking EBC pads and either Black diamond or Brembo disks ?

Anyone heard of these people?

they appear to be quite cheap and say they machine disks to order........

I'm guessing they are best avoided ?
