Hi all

My dads drivers seat has come loose, it looks like both front mountings have been ripped out of the floor

has anyone else had this happen? I'm assuming to fix it i'll have to take seat out and weld a plate in?

The seat must have been out at some time and the bolt left slack. Easy enough to fix it is just held in by 4 bolts BUT the seat belt pre-tensioners need dealing with before removing the seat. If it is the mass & spring type there should be a plastic safety castch plate you can slip in to lock the mechanisim.

The pyrotechnic type will reqire the ignition switched off and key removed from the vicinity of the car for 10 minutes before disconnecting - personally I would disconnect the battery but that could lead to other problems.

I hadn't thought of pre-tensioners, its an X reg, and didn't see any white catches?

safety catch tags are usually pink or orange visible from the rear --- if you can see wire connector blocks under the seat they are for the SRS the connectors are usually pink or orange -- or one of each for airbag and the pre-temsioner.

Might be best to get a copy of the Rover Rave woerkshop manual cd off ebay first and read the section of the SRS system on the 45/25.

I welded a Fiesta with the same problem for my nephew's pal. The front seat was like a rocking chair every time he pulled away so I welded two nuts to plates and then welded the plates in. His original solution was brilliant, a set of kitchen steps wedged in between it and the back seat to stop it rocking back.
