I've bought a large welder from 280 miles away and would like to retreive it this week but it's a hell of a drive to accomplish there and
back in one night.
It weighs 135kg plus a bit for the foot pedal, torch etc etc, any suggestions on carriers.
At the mo I can hire a van for £30 incl vat and share the driving with a mate and do it in a night, which is looking favourite.
Tell us where its coming from, maybe we can help??
where abouts is it? If you are going to Stoneleigh maybe someone will meet you there with it if they are travelling from point of sale.
coming from Saltash, near Plymouth, to be delivered to Barwell, near Hinckley.
Too big for most cars though, and 135kg is a fairly big lift for two people!
Well Mr Nat..Saltash is nearer me than it is you........birds and stones perhaps?
Would it fit inside a Toyota Enima ?
One question, is it DC ???????
A Toyota Enema!!! Ha ha haaa. A great feature i'm sure, but I dont think i'd want one whilst driving...

I did a round trip of 476 miles last week to pick something up. Crazy missions are fun sometimes

I did a good mission once, went up to stafford from luton to pick my mate up on route, then on to stoke to buy a pinto off splitrivet from here. Then
down the m5 and off weds right onto the welsh border to pick some Caterham wheels from a bloke on blatchat. I was about 2 hours late as i got stuck it
traffic on the M6, when i got there his wife had made us some sandwiches and he wouldnt let us go before he showed us his lovely Caterham that he had
just converted to Jenvey throttlebodies and his immaculate sierra 3 door cosworth he had from new, it was all original and looked like it had just
come from the factory. I want to be like that when im pushing 60!
Then we were off back to luton, was so tired after spending the whole day in the car.
All that in the rover 200 i borrowed off my nan as it had a bigger boot than mine, a big old boat anchor in the boot and 5 16" wheels and tyres
in the back.
Was a bit dodgy on the way home, but yeah, random road trips are fun!! Was only worth it because the stuff i was buying were bargains and couldnt be
delivered.
Which way you going maybe a locoster on route could make some sarnies for a stop on the way down!

When we did the mad trip we left at 1am and got almost in sniffing distance of the sea before anyone in Cornwall had woken up, found the best time to leave to head back was around 12pm as we missed the traffic around Oxford. Stayed away from motorways as well as they are dangerous when you are into "matchsticks keeping eyes open driving"

Thats one of the things i hate about motorways - far too monotonous ......
have fallen asleep twice now - only microsleeps but god i cacked my pants.
The first time i'd just passed a junction when i realised how tired i was (the come down from red bull is fast!)
the seond time i was stuck crawling in traffic at 6pm on the m25 after working all day on site. The lorry horn as i drifted out of lane woke me up
before his wheels going over the bonnet did.
I fell asleep at traffic lights the other day!
I was really knackered and the lights are a very long delay as the junction is quite complex.
Thought I'd just realx a sec and the car horn behind me alerted me to the fact that the cars in front had gone and the lights gone back to
red....bugger!
Ah well, with the speed that most people react to traffic lights I was probably quite normal!
Did a road trip many years ago with a friend to collect some VW bits (incl a Formula VW engine).
We borrowed his grandads J4 van (which must have been getting on for 25 years old). His mum said we wouldn't get to Wales. Well, she was nearly
right. Just crossed the bridge when front suspension collapsed. We got picked up by seller and taken to his place in the middle of nowhere, collected
a steel crate full of engine bits, so weighed a stack.
Got a lift from him to Swansea? train station - in the bed of a VW pickup (it was snowing)
Had to stand/sit on the train to London. Got back about midnight.
Great fun:
He went back a couple of weeks later to collect the engine. Mind boggling performance from his bug for about three miles, then blew spark plug
straight out of the head

Well got back at 3:30 ish this morning with the machine, in bed for 4:30, up at 6:30.................starting to feel a little tired now!
Was a good run apart from taking an hour and a half to get out of Leicester due to an accident at the main motorway junction where there are also
major roadworks which have diverted traffic on most of the other roads out of town!
Mate just worked out that the escort diesel van that we hired averaged 45mpg for the full trip, which is pretty amazing I have to say given that my
right foot was flat to the stop for at least 5 of the 9 hours driving!!
