What companies are recommended for offering a sensible get you home breakdown insurance? What sort of costs are involved?

I was mightily narked that the RAC wouldnt collect me when i broke down at SVA so i doubt ill go with them. My daily car is covered by bMW breakdown. So i only need the ZR covering.

Mine is with the AA, through TSB Bank,

I pay £7 a month for the account, but get free travel insurance(2 adults 2 kids), free mobile phone insurance, and free AA cover(with recovery).

the AA cover is also the DRIVER thats covered, so even covers me on my bike too.

My insurance quote from Adrian Flux had a brakedown cover option included. Not sure who provides it but it might be worth looking into.

Whenever i have had recovery with my classic car / kit car insurance it has always been £25 but again no idea who actually comes out to you.

Moneysaving has just spotted that you can get 30 quid cash back from the RAC at the moment, so the cheapest policy £43/year becomes only £13/year

oh, and I was disappointed recently when I broke down, and found that the breakdown cover bundled with my insurance for £50 was roadside only - they took me to the nearest repair shop (3 miles) and left me (I say 'just' - it took us 2 hours!) For some reason I assumed it was fully featured, because it was pan european cover, so didn'y check...

Luckily they were good guys in the car and it was a 20 quid cash job in the end

I've just started using these guys: -

http://www.motoringassist.com/breakdown-cover/

95 quid has covered both me and my wife in any car we drive, full home start, onward journey etc etc cover. Oh and they include kit car cover too, I confirmed this before i took it out.

You can get basic cover from 25 quid.

And the best thing, unlike RAC/AA etc they don't pay for and support BRAKE and other driver-ruining organisations

Not bad when my green flag renewal came through at 170 quid for personal cover for just me :O

I'm been using Autoaid for several years now.

Just had my renewal through - £32 full cover. Covers all of our cars and my motorbike on one policy, wife and me.

You pay the recovery / repair fees directly to the recovery company and then claim back through Autoaid. More like an insurance policy but works and is damn cheap.....
