Im wanting a new digi video camera, it needs the be small and light and able to work with a bullet camera in my kit car!!

And is it easy to get them uploaded onto the net??

Whatever camera you get, make sure it has external video input allowing recording. In many video cameras, the external input is inhibited because the EU says recording from external source (your bullet camera ) turns the camera into a VCR which attracts a higher rate of import duty.

I have just bought myself a Mini DV cam with it in mind that in the future i'll use a bullet cam.
I got an Canon MVX35i from Comet, £300. You struggle to get much cheaper with an AV input thats needed for the bullet cams. I think the cheapest AV in DV cam I found was also from Comet and it was a JVC. It is a bit cheaper on the Comet's web page than in store, price was £240 i think. Apart from these i couldn't find much else about, alot of stores don't have any Camcorders with input recordings.
Uploading to the net should be quite straight forward with the right capture software. If anyone has any advice on what software is good then i'm very interested! For some strange reason you only seem to get photo software with alot of camcorders, no video stuf and no Firewire cable to transfer the vid to pc!

Ive just got one of these. Has an AV in and stores to solid state media...good for about 2 hours recording time in one go. Only £92!

when you get it tell me how Good it is and what bullet camera have you went for??

iv also just brought the canon mvx 30i ,the cheapest i could find one on the net for was £650 then looked on the comet website and its £300 so grabbed one before they realised there mistake .it didnt come with the dv lead that you need to get the video onto your pc tho.i then brought a 480 line bullet cam from www.dogcamsport.co.uk/ but i wish id gone for the 420 line one now as you reduce the quality so much to show it over the net that theres hardly any difference also the lens on the 420 is held in with a grub screw but the 480 is held in place with a sealant which lets the lens unscrew and goes out of focus

If you're buying mainly for bullet cam capture then you might as well go for a cheaper DV camcorder.

All you need is this:

A bullet cam kit with a mic. Dont bother with a power supply its easy to add one to your loom! £100 from dogcamsport.

A Neuros solid state digital video recorder. Stores videos on 1Gb memory cards. Can store nearly up to 3 hours at most. You can get 2 hour of good quality footage. You can get these for £100 delivered on eBay.

Thats all you need. £200 all in. Cheaper than buying a camcorder!

yea well after all morning researching, the samsung with built in bullet has very bad reviews and software errors etc!

NISIS Pocket DV-M1 Digital Video Camcorder for only £92 which records in MP4 format and can be used as a web cam etc is more than worth its money im ordering on off those i think but would like a review from sumone with one first??

or the neuros as stated above ive seen these on the web but seemed expensive, but for £100 that seems ok!

and i think i might go for the more expensive dog cam for £150 if no one is doing a group buy!

has anyone bought a neuros off ebay? Recommend a good seller? Best i could find was £120.

Is there any way to save money by using my phone? It does video recording anyway. Taping it to the roll bar might be a bit extreme though, and im guessing it doesnt have an av in feature! Its an N70.

Well you wanted a review, so...

Went out for a ride in the car and used the NISIS as a camera, the bullet is arriving this week, i must say im so far impressed by the quality of this thing, apart from some blockiness at a certain point, the rest of the 10min video was fine. I have uploaded a sample video of the camera here.

It could have been any of those...it may have been because it was going fast, changing direction, adjusting the light levels, vibrating at a high frequency and then trying to write to the card...didnt experience anything else though..

BTW any blockiness on that video is caused by degredation in quality through the web upload or video editing.

Will post another video when the bullet arrives.

i still think it will take some to beat a cam corder/digital recorder and bullet. but will have to wait and see what yours is like when you get yours
i reduced this to 340kbs the quality has been reduced and the sound isnt great buts its still ok clip

Good lad, dont like to see a round about with out a little tail slide, even if it was a little weak!!

You'll need to check manufacturers specs to make sure they've got a svid/rgb input though.

the only problem with the Neuros is you wont know what your recording unless you link it up to a screen to let you see what your bulletcam is looking at

The advantage of using a camcorder is you also have a camcorder where as with the bullet cam and hard drive recorder you can only use it in the car.

Can you get clear lens covers for the Canon? Then you could just mount that to the roll bar, or is this not recommended, would save £120 on a bullet cam.

i damaged my girlfriends camcorder on a cam mount so didnt want to risk it again.it had worked fine a couple of times before that on the same cam mount.
i was looking at this before i brought the mvx30 but like g said its only any good for the car

Also hard disk is subject to vibration, solid state would be a better option.

just ordered the canon thingy from comet Buzzer. Just the bullet to get now, and a mount or two.

Just an aside, can the canon mvx30 manage multiple bullets, or do i need an adapter?

You will probably need a AV switch or something. I noticed it one of Rich Jenkins videos it keeps on switching cameras, not sure if this is automatic, if he was manual switching, or he had about 4 video recorders on board!

hehe richi had one cam and stiched the footage together ,the mvx can only take one av input but you can use more than one cam by using the av switch box,we got a cheap one free becouse we ordered one each but there iv read that there is a 3 second delay on the change over .im sure i read some where but probably dreamt it that you can get more expensive things that gives you the choice to split your screen up into 4 so you can see all 4 cams at once

thats the hole point i dont want a camera so i dont have to tuck it away i can hard wire the neuros, and then just hide the bullet cam when needed too! as i dont have a windscreen hence no roof etc!

ill give it a go and post some feedback, if it not suitable then no harm seeling back on ebay eh there are still going for £120 + p&P so ive saved £40 at least


..and ive got a few small screens lying about i might flush mount one in the dash board!

You will need a voltage regulator for the neuros. As it needs a 5 volt power supply. Simple enough to make one though (see attached word document i knocked up last night). I would recommend using 2, one for the neuros with a 5V output, and one for the camera with a regulated 12V output.

Sure one of the electronics wizzes can check my maths etc to make sure the resistor values are correct.

Of course if you dont want to make one, you should easily be able to buy something suitable.

I'm doing the same as Kris.
One switch on the dash to power the Neuros, and one to power the camera. The Neuros can be set to come on ready to record and to start recording as soon as there's an input, so I won't have to fiddle with the remote .

With a 2GB card I won't have to worry about running out of tape halfway through a blat, or worry about my camcorder being nicked.
I think once I've used it a couple of times and decided on locations, I can use tape to line-up the camera and won't need a monitor.
I've found them online here for under £100.
