What do you think the chance of them making a 1/2 scale one to fit in a seven is ??

I remember seeing a 1/6th scale merlin made by a bloke called T D Wallenshaw (I think), aka "Tubal Cain" from the model engineering press. Around 6000 parts...

The best model engine I've ever seen was an unfinished project by an engineer who unfortunately died before finishing it. It was a Formula 1 V8 engine modelled on a BRM or Brabham, fully functional - about 3" long, and 1.5" across. Fabulous.

if that's 1/4 scale and they're hoping for proportional speed and sound, does that mean it'll make 1/4 horsepower of the original? at 600bhp full size thats 150bhp at 1/4 scae - should see some bike engine off aero engines are the new bike engines don't you know.

nah - unfortunately it would be 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 the power. 1/64 of 2500hp would be about 40bhp. This is much more than the 16bhp claimed. Which is odd 'cos I reckon it should potentially rev much higher. Maybe not if they're aiming for merlin sound. Also they are not talking about high pressure superchargers either.

PS having experienced the noise from a 1 litre engine without silencers - imagine a 20odd litre v12 with 4" exhausts!

i think they were 27 litres, but thats really besides the point as i don't think you'd notice the difference once you reach the 20ltr mark anyways

Remember a story where they added a few MPH to the planes by modifying the exhaust - the used to just go straight out, when they angled them backwards the pressure acted as a sort of thruster and added a smidgen more speed

Anyway, they're cast iron - a bit too heavy shame really.

and very low revving so low specific output.

a 1/2 sized one would be 3.4ls but only be 200bhp even with the supercharger yet weigh propably as much as a modern v8. maybe a higher revving alloy one would work.
