Evening folks.

I've just ordered a dishwasher to keep SWMBO happy, and I;ve got a couple fo questions with regards to fitting it. It's a Smeg DF614WE, and I'm not sure what fittings it comes with for connecting it to a water supply, and also what requirements it will have for getting rid of waste water. In our kitchen the washing amchine is already taking up the two screw fittings under the sink, so if it has one of these, does anyone know if a two way adapter or splitter suchlike can be bought to allow fitting two hoses to one connection?

Also, do the waste water outlets use a hose similar to that of a washing machine?

waste water is via a pipe like the washing machine.

my dishwasher only needs cold water feed, you can get a connetor that will screw onto the cold water pipe and the machine connects to that no solding.

B&Q do a plastic Y piece that would do you perfectly. I fitted one, probably get change out of £2.

I plumbed mine up to the hot water because it was heated by a solid fuel boiler and the solid fuel fell from the trees.
Never had any problems but if you are wanting to plumb in a conventional manner, as above.

They must have been gutted when red dwarf got pulled.

They recommend cold feed to get a better rinse so you don't get clouding on your glasses (not the optical devices) but I never had any problems!

sounds like a costly investment. you shuold have bought her a pair of marigolds instead. that way you could have had use of them in the garage for all those dirty jobs

Brilliant, cheers folks. I wasn't sure exactly what fittings the water inlet and outlets would be, but if they are the same as a washing machine, then I'm sure I can "engineer" something to do the job!

As for it being an expensive investment, then it wasn't too bad. £250 for a Smeg dishwasher with a 5 year parts and labour guarantee included was pretty good I thought (see www.empiredirect.co.uk for details!) especially for a brand like Smeg!

In our house, I am the Chef, she does the washing up, I do the drying up, she does the washing, I do the ironing, she does the hoovering, I clean the bathroom, she does the dusting, I take refuge in the garage, she revels in the peace and quiet and removal of the main source of untidyness from the house!

It's a pretty good arrangement that we have if you ask me!

PS. between you and me, the dishwasher is going to be a brilliant tool for cleaning up parts from my RC trucks, and various small bits of engines!

Aren't dishwashers just parts washers that look flashy?

Liam has been cleaning up donor parts for years in his dishwasher - we've just bought one to do the same!

Cleans dishes aswell apparently...

If you just Y it on to the connection on the sink waste you may find you get back flow from the drain into dishwasher as a result you may find an inch or so of water in the bottom.

Best way is to give it is own stand pipe and U trap connection to the waste pipe, with the pump outlet hose above the water level in the U trap to prevent back syphoning. .
