Jus thought i would post a pic of my chassis plate as i'm chuffed to bits with it. Although you can't see it in the pic, it's brushed ally and looks the nuts!

I was told at my DVLA inspection today that the chassis number needs to be stamped on to the chassis on the offside where it can be seen. They said it was down to me if I wanted to keep my chassis plate.

DVLA said they wanted it stamped on the chassis but the car has already been inspected by them. SVA chap said it was ok to rivet it to the chassis as long as it's easily readable.

It seems that each local office has a different view on the regs. It would be so much easier if the DVLA check could be done with the SVA.

My local DVLA ( Birminingham) wont let me do my own Chassis number, Gits. Have to be alloted one. I am going to try to persuade them to let me have the one I want by attaching it to the V55/4 they are sending me.
We will see.
Steve.

Steve

Try getting them to call you and ask them to check the data base and ask if they can check the one you want. If it's available then there is no reason why they can't give it to you.

Unless they are Gits as you say!!

When I went to see DVLA regarding VIN numbers I was given a piece of paper that read.....

QUOTE

We have been advised by VPG that applicants who wish to register kit vehicles may use their own VIN numbers or the kit manufacturers VIN numbers.
The Vin Number must be formatted as outlined below:

The VIN Number must be unique to the vehicle concerned and must not deliberately or inadvertantly copy a sequence of letters and numbers already allocated. If in doubt seek advice from VPG via LOD helpline.

It must be made up of between 9 and 17 digits and must not contain Q,Z, and I

ENDQUOTE

I have no idea who VPG or LOD are but surely it must be worth asking them if you do get stuck.

Also better point out that DVLA still have to inpect my car. They agreed that the VIN I wanted to use would be OK based on this note and in the meantime I have passed SVA using this number. They are now in possesion of every piece of documentation I have (reciepts, doner V5 etc) and I am waiting for them to get be to me to arrange the inspection. Apparently the lady I need to speak to is off sick.

This was from Manchester DVLA

If it helps I could photocopy the note and stick it in the post to you, but let me know ASAP as I go on holiday on Saturday.

(Looks like Inspection will be at least two weeks away)

Hope this of some help,

John
