hi all,

after having another quiet week, i thought that it be time that i started to get back on track with the build, so this weekend, i want to get the engine and gearbox in so i can start to measure other bits and pieces up.

so here it is todays work, we have had series 1, "pimp my diff", so checking over the forum we havent had alot of pimpin for a while,

so now introducing series 2 "pimp my gearbox!" pic's below..

Just a quick question?? How much play should there be in the input and output shafts of a type 9??

I picked one up a while ago pretty cheap but there seems to be play in both the input and output shafts...

Cheers

Very nice

What kind of paint ? hammerite ?

omega0684 - 28/5/06 at 06:27 PM

yep, bog std hammerite, silver and deep green (BRG). couple of coats of both, and it comes up a treat, the hardest part is cleaning up the gearbox before painting, lots of ground on dirt very hard to get off, but look at the result

just measured, output shaft has 10mm play in it, and the input shaft had about 40mm of splined shaft before you hit the clutch leaver, hope this helps

now im going back to the garage cuz i just noticed i've missed a bit

I'd just check that the small hole in the dome on the gearbox cover isn't blocked as this is the breather.

If this is blocked then the seals will have a hard time due to the gearbox becoming pressurised when it warms up.

Cheers,
