Took my VW Sharan in today to have a new cambelt and have the A/C re gassed and they loaned me a nice little black Polo.
While having a look i found a £10 note on the floor in the back!! Sweeeet i thought. But thought i would give it in when i picked up my car.
Went to pick up the car and was greeted with a bill for over £570
So i kept the tenner!!!!!!
Am i a bad bad man?

heck no!
but was the cambelt made of unicorn hair and did they fill the ac up with pixie dust?
ouch.
Have you seen the programme 'My name is Earl'?
It's Karma, you see??
Andy-mate, you a bad, bad man?
Absolutely........................NOT!
Fozzie
I doubt very much that it belonged to the mechanics..........
Shit thats a tad steep was it a main dealer by chance.
But hay ho i would of kept the tenner too
Chris: yeah right!!
It was a main dealer and i will not go back if anything else needs doing!!!! Except for usual service.
Jeeeez - how much of that was the re-gas? My BMW has started to blast out hot air so I suspect I am going to get a similar job done.
its a £20 job in most places. At least, it was last time i checked....
razman, im in colchester if u want ya system tested out of hours so to speak for a very reasonable price

I'd go with the proper discharge and refil with A/C systems.
You also need to make sure you have the correct gas version - apparently there are 2 versions of gas? Mixing them is lethal apparently...
£60 isn't too much to pay when you consider it - well worth it.
Plus - some of the cheaper end gasses have a tendancy to smell like cheesy feet
(honest)
£35+vat seems to be the going rate around here for a pressure test, evacuation and re-gas.
The top-up cans are ok if you are certain you have some pressure still in the system. If you have no pressure then water/moisture could have got in
and thats not good! Thats why you'd need a evac and re-gas.

top ups are pants, there are two types of gas, not dangerous to mix but both neutralise oxygen so not good to be around if any vents, old type is r12,
they have different connectors to the r134a gassed motors .. its been r134a since about 91/92 its not a cfc and thats about the only difference
lesson endeth
dont forget that if your system has been low or emoty for a while you may need a new filter/dryer as well, they normally have a tell tale on them to
indicate if moisture has got into the system, if it needs changing that will add a bit as well.

The re gas was just under £70. It's the labour thats the killer at these dealerships!!
