Hi,
Hope somebody can help me.
I am getting massive vibrations through my ford focus under braking. On inspection I see the disc is cracked so I thought I would change the lot
discs and pads.
Anyway how do you get the caliper off. It looks like an allen key holding the slider on, but not any size of allen key I have metric or imperial.
Its must be about 7mm cause a 6 is too small and an 8mm to big this seems odd. Can anybody help me
Cheers
Steve

Thanks guys,
7mm allen keys arent that common are they? I only say that because I have never needed or used one
I'll check b and q tomorrow or maybe my local motor factor will have one.
thanks again
Steve
A decent car spares/factors should have one, not cheap but best to buy a good one like sykes pickavant, OR, buy a allen key socket (or set that includes one) to fit a 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet.
Second for the suggestion to get an allen socket. That way you can use a torque wrench to fit them.
Thanks guys,
Got a 7mm allen socket and replaced the discs and pads outside today in the rain. Apart from the obvious saftey issues I couldn't cope with the
vibrations so had to do it today. Trying to get the brake disc off was a nightmare. I started off giving it gentle taps with a nylon hammer, then
hard hits with nylon hammer then big hits with a real hammer then thunderous hits with a sledgehammer
, and it still wouldn't come off. In the
end I used a very large pick axe and wedged it in a prised it off.
The brakes are now judder free. I am amazed that such a small crack caused
massive vibration, anyway all is well now.
Thanks
Steve
i cooked a set of focus pads 2 days after been fitted, real bad vibrations after been driving down some country fast roads
,
had to change them again.
