Isn't Daytona in Florida?
Is route 66 in california?
i want to do a driving holiday in california to LA, San Fran. and Vegas, I have been to LA and vegas before, but next time do it driving. But LA
looked a pain in the rear to drive.
i am in southern cali so if u need any advice i can help. I usually drive the mountain roads out here so thats always a good time. plus its beautiful.
Done the 'circle' a few years ago.
started in frisco, route 1 to LA,
La to vegas,
Vegas to Lake Taho,
Lake Taho to Yosemite,
Yosemite back to frisco,
two weeks, fantastic fun, amazing sights. Love to do it again and spend more time everywhere.

A winery crawl through the Napa Valley is always high on the list of 'must do's '.
Cheers,
Syd.
Thanks guys...
Planning to go in november, so have heaps of time to get organised.
Will be hiring a car, but currently opting for the base model with the hope of an upgrade. Would idealy like something without a roof and a V8 :-)
had a buick century. 3 or 4l v6 auto with a roof. It was big and comfy but handled like a dog and drank fuel at am alarming rate.
Did 5 visits to LA 10 years ago, driving isnt too bad as there are a whole load of multi lane highways that go most places.
Dont forget the scale of the place - la, san fran, and vegas are big places with big distances between them. on our 3 week hol, we couldnt fit
everythign in!

if you go fly drive, watch out for the 'free car'.
ist not. in my experience, you wont get much of an upgrade if any. the technique seems to be that you get told the car you will have will be crap (i
got told it was a daewoo - ive never even seen on ein the usa!) unless you upgrade - and you can have everything for just 32 dollars a day more. Then
there is all the compulsory insurances - which can be another 30 a day. if you havnt hired in the usa before, prepare for a rip off.
im in florida in sept, and have arranged my own hire, as i will know what i will get and ALL the costs are included. Try holiday autos or expedia. If
you go with a 'non all inclusive' or 'free with the holiday fly drive' prepare to get shafted.
when i didnt upgrade, i got an antique not current model buick centuary.
default cars for one or two people are things like dodge neons.

yeah good point, GET ALL the insurance you can get. honestly get it, then ask for more, beg, get more! you don't want to get sued in the
states.
Also, highways, don't stay in the right hand (equiv left in uk) lane, its the feed on / off lane move one lane in and you can sit there all day.
Drive the coastal highway from San Fran to LA - via Big Sur. Fantastic drive, and there are some great places to stay en-route - we stayed here, it
was superb - if your taking your missus she will love it:
Deetjens
Love the Monterey Aquarium too....
And much prefer San Fran to LA....

If you fancy some nice duning, pismo beach on the 1 between santa barbara and san francisco is worth a trip, just hire a 4x4 from somewhere local, and
head down the beach, 5 dollars and you can blast up and down the dunes as much as you like.
The 1 is a really nice drive too
