Sven's last game, thank f**k
Mansfield - 1/7/06 at 10:18 PM

The only consolation I can take from the valiant defeat tonight is the halfwit Mr Eriksson is no longer in charge of our national team.

Best squad we have had in years, half of the team would grace any team in the world, but we played like tw***s.

I thought Owen Hargreaves had some damming pictures (there must be plenty around) of Sven, because he has won about 30 caps and has done nothing. Turns out if you ask him to do what he does naturally - he is a genius.

So many players wasted out of position, its criminal.

Whether you like football or not, success at this tournament can lift and unite this country. The guy had a responsibilty to give us a run for our money.

Ronaldo - cute or unsportsmanlike, Rooney - unluckly or violent, it doesn't affect the cause. Sven was way off with his 'plan' and I am glad to see the back of him.

P.S. Apologies to Owen Hargreaves - I didn't know you were a vital piece of the jigsaw while I slagged you off for your last 30 caps.

i was well impressed with hargreaves

Mansfield - 1/7/06 at 10:22 PM

I couldn't believe how well Hargreaves played, apparently he does that all the time for his club.

Paul Scholes quit England because he couldn't get a game in his natural postion. He was still first choice for Man U (pre horrible injury).

Boring Boring Boring

apart from tonights game which I really wanted them to win which was entertaining

SVen is obsessed with DEFENSIVE football

and its like watching paint dry

why werent the likes of Aaron lennon and Owen Hargreaves used all the way through both are Entertainers which is what we need

gazza285 - 1/7/06 at 10:57 PM

Sven was good at league football, that might work fine over a season but the WC is all about winning, like the FA Cup. Best midfield in the world, yeah, apart from they are all out of position with their club roles.

No disrespect to Owen, but why take the risk? And Rooney to a similar degree. Crouch? Walcott? Lennon? Hardly proven Premiership talent, let alone internationally. Sven's an arse, but he can pull the birds for his age and looks.

gazza285 - 1/7/06 at 11:18 PM

He's not cheap either.

If you want to unite England use a English guy, not a foreigner

scotty g - 2/7/06 at 07:09 AM

Have to agree with many of the above posts, Hargreaves was man of the match for me.
The biggest irony was that i think England played their best game so far but managed to lose!
As soon as it went to penalties i knew it was all over.

fesycresy - 2/7/06 at 07:11 AM

Sam Allardyce should have got the job not McLaren.

bob - 2/7/06 at 07:49 AM

I was wondering if the players will come out now sven has gone, give their verdict on the way sven wanted them to play.

Although i couldnt understand why the players didnt mutiny and sort it themselves, although with one striker on the pitch and five midfielders it was a problem.

Will Mclaren be any different ?

He may have a few words to say himself

said to me following the Brazil v France match "Dad, can I buy a Brazil shirt?" When asked why a Brazil shirt his simple reply was "they play brilliantly". After a brief conversation about patriotism and support he was adamant that a Brazil shirt was his choice. I can't blame him really Sven's style of football I guess reflects his personality, stodgy, methodical, logistical but inevitably boring. Look at the semi-finalists, France, Portugal, Spain etc they all play football that the premierships play! England should be there in the semi's but they aren't because they are made to play "different" from there premiership/european strategy.
I hope the players keep quiet and not slag Sven off, it will do no good at all. Though someone somewhere either a friend or relation of a player will get the inevitable scoop. It's sad that probably the best chance of winning the World Cup has now passed us by, there is always the next when perhaps Rooney has matured, Lennon has prooved himself, Beckham is no longer in the squad, Owen is fit etc etc
Put it down to experience... maybe a new manager will inject that much needed passion and flair and then maybe we can finally lift what we should have lifted this year. Roll on the European and next World Cup.

brazil were fairly poor, although not as bad as england. france on the other hand are now playing some very good football.

germany-france final looks interesting though

jon_boy - 2/7/06 at 09:18 AM

I thought france would peak soon. Lennon has had a great season with spurs and its a shame he wasnt played more throughout the tournament, and its almost a shame they didnt give walcott a kick about for a bit. Ah well. I hope germany win now, they are the only team i could take the gloating from!

viatron - 2/7/06 at 09:23 AM

Wonder if Renaldos transfer request is in yet? Wouldnt want to be him in the Man U dressing room during pre season training!!

joneh - 2/7/06 at 09:57 AM

I think we have an excellent team, we're just shite at taking penalties and there's very little flair. We need to play brazilian football.

I think Hargreaves played well, and you can't fault Ferdinand or Terry. Lampard was off form for the whole event, we were very unlucky to lose owen so quick. And wayne "shreck" rooney is too immature sometimes.

jollygreengiant - 2/7/06 at 10:32 AM

IMHO. Personally I thought that it was funny the way that as soon as both Becham AND Rooney were off, the rest of the players started playing like a team, finding quite a few holes in portugals defense. Especially Lennon.

PS. is it only cynical me that thinks Theo Walcot doesn't actually exist and is/was purely a figment of Svens imagination so that he could make more money out of this last series of matches.

MkIndy7 - 2/7/06 at 10:40 AM

Biggest mystery for me was why play for extra time and penalties like the Commentators etc were suggesting Sven would do?

Surely when its 0-0 you should be playing for the winning goal in the last Minute of the game cos thats the only minute you can win it in!

Although they were a man down they should have thrown every little last bit at em in the last 5-10 mins instead of defending and hanging on for a draw and extra time.

jollygreengiant - 2/7/06 at 10:41 AM

Hear, Hear. The defense is offence.

BKLOCO - 2/7/06 at 11:36 AM

Calm down lads...
It's only a game...
In the great scheme of things it doesn't matter a toss...

Sums up Englands whole world cup really, I mean if the centre-backs and defensive midfielder are your most notable players then somethings gone wrong, you've spent all of your time under the kosh. Just don't get Sven's thinking at all really, in the press conferences he was hyping up how we'd win it, and we'll see more attractive football, but his decisions negate any chance of that happening at all (unless it's the opposition doing the attractive bit). Odd
