I've just fitted a vegetable oil conversion to my Landcruiser. It has a two tank system, and at the moment, the auxiliary tank is 22 litres. I want to fit a larger under slung tank beneath the car, and have had a quote for a custom tank made by a supplier of marine tanks. They are quite pricey, and so I have been thinking of alternatives. Fabricating an ali one is not practical as I can’t weld aluminium, so my thoughts turned to fibreglass. Have any of you any experience with fibre glass fuel tanks? Any thoughts, advice would be much appreciated.

Are you running pure veggie or a mix? I know a chap who is running pure veggie in a Disco and he has made a small ali pre heat tank before it's fed to the engine. It has an element at the bottom just to thin the veggie down on cold days. It's now done nearly 10K on this system with just the odd burst of diesel and it works a treat.

I'm running pure veggie, but starting on diesel. I've fitted a heat exchanger, and change over to veggie oil once the engine has warmed up. The auxiliary tank sits in the boot, and looks very Heath Robinson. My spare tyre is mounted on a swing carrier, and there is a massive space beneath the boot, so I thought I'd try and tidy things up a bit.

Can you rin them on olive oil? The GF doesn't like veggie

I rivetted my tank up in ali then fibreglassed over the top & later poured liquid resin inside the tank & ran it all round to ensure no leaks. It passed SVA & works a treat cost about a tenner!!

Have things changed again then?
I recall fibreglass fuel tanks for motorbikes being very popular in the sixties and then being banned because some fuels had alchohol in them and this made the tank go all floppy. I was not aware this had been recinded. Or was it all a dream?
