okay, one of my mates needs to buy a car, and is looking at her local auction.
Which would you buy?
all roughly the same money (ish)......
or another suggestion-
20 K per year, single female, for work, cheapish, minimal effort...
When I was in the motor trade, I always recommended japanese cars to friends.
This is because they are generally more reliable.
There is nothing worse than recommending a car to someone which then breaks down........
so out of the above, probably the Avensis although they are built in the UK
Cheers

As an asides none of them have rear wheel drive

Is that your lonely hearts advert for her?![]()
Sorry i couldnt be more help!
diesel cars are far more reliabel then petrol ones.
Would get the HDI one.
Offcourse you should do a check of what you buy first.
also it will depend on if you buy from a owner of from a garage.
the garage would give you waranty??
the other not..
Tks
wy not look for a toyota corrolla diesel?
or a vauxhall astra diesel?
You seemed to emphasize the reliablility.... no question it HAS to be japanese...... yup it's a boring car but so what! it will run forever
unlike the a ford or any french cr*p!
Toyota or Honda or ugh hate to say it Nissan, the Almera may haze zero personality but is actually very good.
I'm guessing the budget is 3-4k ? In which case there would be no question for me...
Mitsubishi Galant. Damn fine car, good looking and they NEVER go wrong. Just wish I had never got rid of mine
To be honest I would be inclined to look at a 1.9TD Seat Leon. Full Audi A3 interior, proven reliable engine, 50+ mpg, easy to drive, good vision,
comfortable with large car feel etc and all the bells and whistles with them.
My wife has a 1.4 and absolutely loves the thing. I drive it now and again and it really is a good car for the money.

Numbers dont add up!!!
Three recomendations for the Avensis, but only two votes!!
Who didnt vote? eh? eh?
I'll find out......

NO NO! suggest something that will make a good donor Mazda MX5 for example then you can buy the salvage when she wraps it round a tree!
Caber
Nissan Micra, new ones are stylish (for girls) and cheap, realiable as you like and the new 160sr is fairly peppy too.
just a thought
Of the choices you give the Focus gets my vote for all round ease of ownership.
As per Howlor's comment above, I too would consider the Leon TDI for the same reasons. I've run one for a while and am considering another
when the time comes.

I've got a leon - it's great. It is a cupra though, which helps.
My girlfriend is after a nissan figaro - bit out of the ordinary, cool (for girls!) and micra underpinnings so jap reliability. Only problem is the
price, considering how old they are.
Other recomendation would be a yaris - the GFs current car. Cheap as chips, never skips a beat, still look quite funky. Would get a bigger engine than
the 1.0 she's got though.
any idea,s what the girly is saying on DAVE FJ ,S picture ???????
focus or 406 from the list for cheapness of running, pug for good economy. I would have to agree with those suggesting vw group diesels if you can
find one at the right price, I've done 15k in little over 6 months and its been completely faultless and bulletproof really. Its done 134k now
and apart from consumables (ie rear pads) flew through its mot last week.
Ned.
Focus Diesel or Seat Leon - the Focus has a slightly better quality interior - the Leon is a bit plasticy... IMHO!
Ford have put a lot into the Diesel Focus - handles well and goes forever.
